Sounds like an amazing dream, ruth. I've never put much stock in dreams, but every now and then there is one that makes me wonder.
I wonder if we all don't carry something sacred within us and each one of us must carry it up our own mountains. So I suppose in a sense, we're all chosen. Your dream sounds universal in concept.
I wouldn't mind having one of those. 
yes, sume, i think we all ARE carrying something sacred; its too bad that some don't realize that yet - most of my dreams are fluff but in my looooooong life, i've had some that held so much power and influence after waking (and even, on one occasion, direct instructions), that i believe God or my "higher self" or my "ruh / soul" is giving me a message via the dream state - i can even recall one from my early 20's, it was that potent. if you ever have a dream such as these, you will know it for its difference from the others.
PS - probably because i'm so thick-headed in my waking state (smile)

Your dream has all the significance found in the historiccal Tarot...the fool...the path...the sacred objects...a pouch...powerful symbols or tokens...the stick..even the man accompanying you...(but in the historical tarot deck(s) it was a dog!)
Perhaps a dive into the 'big see' of the Tarot from that steep cliff could help decipher a few things for you Ruth.
