Opinionnation Times

Gravatar It seems these days that voicing your opinion is wrong and shouldn't be done.

Remember all the calls of 'anti-american' whenever someone criticised Bush or the decision to go to Iraq after September 11? It is not as bad as back then but it still does linger. Although now if you state you are against the war, you immediately get labeled as someone who doesn't support the troops.

Why have a right to free speech if people are going to rip you to shreds without even considering your view? What this student is doing is defending that right in the best possible way. Even if the banner wasn't funny, the school had no right to silence that view.

Gravatar It wasn't legitimate criticism that received the anti-American claims. it was the undermining of the war and the troops by obvious anti-Americans that warranted the description.

but if you want to make this a left and right issue, many students are being punished for not adhering to the leftist mindset in colleges across the country. also, scientists who have pointed out the faults of the ideologically driven agenda of the global warming hysteria are being threatened with death for expressing their opinion. or the countless times nutroot liberals physically attacked republican speakers in order to stymie their free speech. or the fact that the far-left is on the offensive in an effort to force Democrats to speak the groupthink or be destroyed politically...

But I think it's more important than just partisan politics. Free speech is being overrun and this case will hopefully side with our freedoms not our lack of humor or weak stomachs

Gravatar When I was a senior ('82-'83) in high school, we were playing against Dulles High School. Their mascot was the Viking...thus, Dulles Vikings. Our senior girls made a bunch of clever posters with "Stamp out VD" (Vikings of Dulles) on them. One of the assistant principals nearly had a coronary and made them take the signs down. She insisted that they were inappropriate and overtly sexual (even though "Vikings of Dulles" was also on the posters...you know, for the freshmen). Our English teacher tried to intercede on our behalf, to no avail.
