Really liked the NYT puzzle. 62 Across [Its value is in creasing] is a gem, and the WAIT/ACT pair put me into a semi-philosophical mood. I was, initially, not misled by [Taper]-- my first guess was SPY. But then I tried TIP and forgot all about my earlier wrong-but-right guess.

I'm with you on the clue for LEI, in the Sun. All I could think of was TEA, for some time.

I had what I thought was a completely inexplicable mis-step on the Times puzzle, when I managed to spell ORIGAMI with a Y at the end. After submitting the corrected puzzle, I looked, and discovered that the Y came from my spelling ST DENIS as ST DENYS. It's an older, but still acceptable spelling of the saint's name -- Google had 3.1M hits for I, to 906K hits for Y. One of the first links in the Y list demanded a click to see the end of the following couplet, concerning St. Denis (Dionysius, Dennis, or Denys), who was beheaded:

St. Denys got his head cut off; he did not care for that.
He took it up and carried it two miles without his hat.

HERE I AM! Where are the suds?

I counted wrong on the Connecticut clue and thus missed SILENTC and wondered about ECT or maybe even CT itself. I just hate it when I do that.

And SOT. I had SOP. When will I ever learn? What is a NYT grid without a sot, a user, a trip or two to rehab, any number of OD references, tosspots, topers etc. The bars weren't closed on Gorski's Sunday either with Juicers for SOUSES. Missed that round too.

Where was I? Oh yeah. Great puzzle. I actually got all that moderun stuff and I don't even own a cell phone. And got some of the old-fashioned stuff too ... like VCR. Ha!

Where's the keg?

Keg's in the kitchen—help yourself.

Hey Orange,

Finally did a Sun puzzle. Do they also get progressively harder through the week?

The LEI clue was cute, but I also tried TEA and CHI first. Got one wrong: had ARTE and changed it to ARTA because I couldn't think of anything for 61D. ALS could have stood for American League Something.

Putting in PAUPAU for NASSUA and FRITE for FRIES really slowed me down in the south but I finished this in half the time I needed for the NYT.

Loved SPLATS and ELI crossing BOOLA. We seem to be seeing a lot of rat poison (DCON) this week.

Rick, the Suns do get harder throughout the week, and in general they're tougher than the NYT. The Mon. Sun = Tues.-Wed. NYT. The Tues. Sun = Wed.-Thur. NYT. The Wed. Sun = Thurs. NYT. The Themeless Thursday Sun = Fri. NYT. The Weekend Warrior Friday Sun = Sat. NYT or harder. Themed Thursday and Friday Suns (alternating weeks with the above themeless ones) range from Thur. NYT to Sat.-NYT-tough-but-themed.

Just did the Chronicle of Higher Education puzzle. You were right -- it was a tsalb!

Orange, thanks for the answer
