Mutterings From the Back Row

Gravatar Like TUG, I used to be able to recite the first two paragraphs of this article from memory. That was from the 4th grade! But as sad as it may be, I was an adult before realizing just how important this document was at the time, and I feel it's equally as important now.

Gravatar Crap!! Can I come back and do this later? No time to read this, this morning.
Was just checking in.
xo

Gravatar Cake--You have a serious problem... ;-)

Gravatar e.e.--Thanks, but I really wasn't really responsible for writing it! Hope things are looking up for you some...

Perakath--Funny, I've never read any of his books (yeah, I know. I'm illiterate...).

Q--You're welcome! Not a bad weekend at all!

TUG--I've pretty much avoided the TV all weekend. I did catch a bit of "1776", which was fine until they started singing...

Gravatar It's been signed by Josiah Bartlett! If it's good enough for an ancestor of the guy in the West Wing, it's good enough for me. I believe Alan Shore and Denny Crane also may have referred back to it in their case in the most recent series of Boston Legal.

You dont think I watch too much American TV do you? ;P

Gravatar I used to have part of it memorized. Have you been watching the History Channel? They've been playing The Revolution back to back to back.

Gravatar Thank you, Os. Hope you're having fun today :)

Gravatar Why the heck are the first two paragraphs familiar to me?? I blame Dan Brown.

Gravatar Awesome post, Os!!!!!

Gravatar DME--Honestly, I don't believe I was ever required to read this, the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights when I was in high school. They were hung in the hallway, but who has time between classes to read?

Boo--You're more like the anti-hippie hippie! Loved your story about the flags!

Lapis--My guess is that the Brits felt the same way, but it's easier to write a document like this when you're an ocean away!

Dana--Yes it is, and thanks for doing your part to keep it that way! Even if it was the STD lectures! ;-)

Erin--Sad, but not unexpected. Which is even sadder...

Gravatar Made me sad, they were doing something on the radio station I listen to, and asked people to name the first line of the declaration of independence and no one got it right. That just seems kind of sad to me.

Happy 4th just the same!

Gravatar The art of writing a document is every bit as beautiful as a Rembrandt. Everyone should read - and strive to understand - every word in this document!

It *is* a great country we live in.

Gravatar It is a wonderful document and speaking as a Brit, old George III had a lot to answer for.
Happy Independence Day!

Gravatar A truly inspiring scrap, isn't it? I wonder how many Americans will take the time to ponder the fortuitousness of their residency; and resolve to become an active participant in the safeguarding of our nation's greatest and most important ideal. Freedom.

I wish you a festive and reflective Independence Day.

Gravatar Didya know that the Constitution has a 'printed' error in naming "America of the United States and "america" being capitalized and not capitalized?

Rarely people stop and read that document. I hadn't read this posting before either.
