If we want to get the anti-Christ out of office, let's not sacrifice even one vote to The Grand Gesture.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Dean was going to be my first ever vote. Now I'm kicking off my adult citizenship with a compromise.
Damn.

Well, here's how I figure it: Dean's on the ballot (in New York at least). I don't care, really, between Kerry and Edwards-- I'll vote for either come November. Do I think Edwards would have a better shot against Bush? Maybe-- a little, but a lot is going to happen between now and then. The extent to which Dean controls delegates will be a factor in keeping him in the process. Just having him in the process has made better candidates out of both Edwards and Kerry. I'd like to see that continue. It also seems to me that seeing New Yorkers continue to support Dean will improve both Kerry and Edwards.
Finally, what the hell-- why shouldn't I vote for the guy I really like? It's not hurting whoever the ultimate candidate is (the way it would if I were to vote for Nader in November). For a year and a half I've been saying that I'm voting for Dean-- I intend to make good on that.

Yeah. I agree on this one. I am going to vote my bumpersticker--I mean --heart and vote for Dean. The longer he appears as a force in the Democratic party, the stronger the hope that the party and candidates will say [and can we hope "do"] the things that people ike me want.

NC is so messed up at the moment with re-apportionment that our primary will not be held until -very likely-just before the convention. Instead, the Dems are going to hold statewide caucuses in April. What I'm going to do about that is actually attend some Dem Party functions in my county (breakfasts, fish fries, etc. and then make it my business to vote for Dean in the Caucus. The Dems are so pitifully thin on the ground in my part of this county that, even tho' most of the pols are absolutely in bed with the worst developers and therefore know me as a bad person, they are glad to have me.
