Gravatar Try George Weigel as a leading Catholic intellectual.

Gravatar Toweringly intellectual catholic Theologians and Philosophers still exist, publish, speak. the problem seems to be that fewer and fewer Catholics (and others), seem to think they need to listen.

As we have become better educated, we seem to put most of our faith in our own thinking, our own lives, our own experiences. We spend less and less time on our wider (group, nation, larger history) experience. We spend even less time on the eternal truths which prove the existence of a truly loving God (or whatever you call that).

The Vatican probably does that, too.

Gravatar I think your comment has merit. Perhaps, we,
as Catholics, lead less visible existence. Catholic universities once the bastions of Catholic thought, are less visibly Catholic, more secular; vastly more secularly, proudly and defiantly less secular. Priests have grown older and recruitment is way down. Time for thought and religious reflection dissipates. The stresses on the priesthood from the scandals makes a life in the Church less attractive. All contribute. Thanks,

Gravatar Errata: more secular. Sorry
