Thanks for your input.....

Gravatar Hey OX let's not make fun of America's favorite chain smoker, huh?

Seriously though, I wanted to report that I have finally started watching 24, and as you predicted I'm hooked. Thanks for the encouragement.

Gravatar So have you psychicly linked Jack Bauer to George Bush yet?

For some light afternoon reading, Colin Powell calls the administration a bunch of incompetent morons here.

I wonder how long it will take before the wingers swiftboat him? Surely he doesn't deserve all those medels he has. Does he have a book coming out?

Why is Colin Powell hate America?

Gravatar For some light afternoon reading, Colin Powell calls the administration a bunch of incompetent morons here.

Wow, there's a real shocker. You reading something into a story that isn't there, that is.

I musta missed the part where he calls the Bush admin. "a bunch of incompetent morons"

.

Gravatar The suggestion is that Powell was sceptical of the war from the start as he did not buy Donald Rumsfeld’s dream that it could be won with a tiny force. “There were enough troops to defeat the army. (But that) was only part of the battle. The difficult part was taking control of a very large country with 25m people and you have just taken out the whole government. And guess what: who then becomes the new government? You do, under the laws of land warfare. We were not able to take control, nor did we have the right political approach.

“We were characterising the insurgents as a few dead-enders and saying, ‘This isn’t all that bad’. A larger troop presence would have been helpful. I raised the question. The Pentagon says that is not what the generals thought. But the generals were working under political direction that said ‘this is not going to be that bad’. But it did turn out that bad — we were unable to strangle the insurgency in its crib — and now it is raging.”

So, Powell says that he tried to warn them. He says the generals were told what they needed instead of the other way around. He's saying the post-war was botched.

You think anyone died because of the botched post-war plan? I call that incompetent morons. But then, you might just call it a mistake.

Gravatar No see I can discern between televised fiction and reality.

Gravatar That was a not-so-subtle jab at right wingers that think the real world works like the heros of tv counter-terrorism.

You know.. if Jack Bauer can violate the law to "bring down" the bad guys.. surely chimp-in-chief can!

As an aside, Peter Daou has a really good editorial here relating to the impact of the media on politics. It explains how things, such as the attacks on John Murtha happen.

And of course, Murtha was absolutely correct in what he was talking about.. In case your curious about the latest Pentagon report, news story here.

It's so amazing to me how the left is correct time and again, but the stories get so twisted up that it just confuses people to no end. But, despite the fact that the right has this really weird media orgy going on, Bush's approval ratings still hit the all time low of 36%. Bet you don't hear about that on Faux News tonight.

Gravatar Tom you're right.

We should just give up and pull out of Iraq (after all they weren't connected to 9-11) sit back and wait till terrorism grows so large that the whole of Europe is put under Shria law and run by muslims bent on the slaughter of Christians, complete annihilation of Israel, and the downfall of the United States.

But before that we should impeach Bush, put Al Gore into the White House (after all he really won in 2000) and start attacking what the "real" problem is: GLOBAL WARMING!

We should let Vice President Kerry write up laws covering how the NSA, while trying to glean information from terrorists plotting to kill us, will have to inform terrorists that they are going to be tapped 24 hours beforehand.

Secretary of Defense McCain could also summit to Congress new rules on how terrorists in custody need to be put in velvet handcuffs and be given camomile tea every other hour.

Does that about sum up what you'd like to see done?

.

Gravatar What I'd like to see done, in no particular order.

1. Right wing pundits admit they were completely wrong for trusting an incompetent administration that has screwed up every major issue they have dealt with.

2. Right wing pundits admit that invading Iraq in the first place was a bad idea.

3. Impeach Bush for violating the 4th amendment and insisting it was his right to continue doing so. As with Clinton, leave Bush in office to serve out his term as a lame duck. I'd rather see him impeached for lying his way into war, but it's impossible to prove he was intentionally malicious instead of just incompetent.

will have to inform terrorists that they are going to be tapped 24 hours beforehand.

Silly silly.. no one has been able to demonstrate how knowledge that the NSA taps phone calls has jeopardized national security.... unless of course you think the terraists are really really stupid and didn't know that to begin with. The issue, and it's really super simple, is that FISA has provisions for obtaining warrants prior to taps, and in fact has provisions for obtaining warrants after taps.. and the prez doesn't think there is any reason to go to FISA at all is because "9/11 changed everything" and he can do whatever he wants to do as long as he claims it's to make us safe.. as if there is such a thing.

3b. Right wing pundits admit that "give me liberty, or give me death" really does mean something, and they are not just willing sycophants to a right wing autocracy.

4. Fire Donald Rumsfeld and Karl Rove.

5. Begin a rapid withdrawal of the troops from Iraq as it's obvious that being there is not going to make any difference, and it's merely eroding our military capability.

6. Be kind to Tom DeLay and reserve him a jail cell next to Jack Abrahmoff, Randy Cunningham, and Scooter Libby.

7. Once again observe Geneva conventions prohibiting torture assuming, of course, that in any military conflict we enter into in the future we hope to have the same accorded to our soldiers.

7b. Understand that being "moral" means you do not sink to the tactics of your enemy in any case, as that simply degrades yourself.

8. Barring #7, have all right wing cowards that are staying out of the military in droves finally admit they are cowards and enlist.. and be sent to a combat theatre, where issue #7 becomes something they suddenly want to reconsider.

8b. Send Assrocket and Goldberg to the front lines.

9. Fine Halliburton, and strip Dick Cheney of any profits he's received, which in this case would be the increase in Halliburton stock prices.

10. Apologize to all the administration critics that have been fired as a result of their political opposition and reinstate them to their jobs.

Gravatar 11. Run television ads paid for by the RNC honoring the combat service of John Kerry, Max Cleland, and John Murtha. At the end of the commercial, point out the vast number of current administration officials who either never served at all, or never came within smelling distance of combat.

12. Apologize for Jean Schmidt.

13. Admit the Terri Schaivo fiasco was merely a political stunt, and that she truly was a brain dead vegetable, as the autopsy proved. Apologize to Michael Schiavo, and publicly reaffirm that a spouse is the next of kin in end of life decisions, and not parents or other family members.

14. Admit that the FMA was yet another silly political stunt designed to provoke the underlying hatred that simmers in evangelical Christianity.

15. Admit that Ken Mehlman is gay, and apologize to Mary Cheney for not allowing her on the stage during the republican convention when Dick brought the rest of the family up.

oh.. I could do this all day..

Gravatar Jerk off? Thomas, you are evidence of why liberalism is doomed in America. My thanks to you.

Gravatar That's quite a few demands Thomas, at least you're not going to have to say, as Sideshow Bob did, "Success! They're giving in. Blast! I should've made more demands."

Gravatar What's really funny is that Tom actually thinks I was admitting he's right.

.

Gravatar Jerk off? Thomas, you are evidence of why liberalism is doomed in America. My thanks to you.

Jerk off? Oh come on.. at least be a little creative when you insult me.. that was just lame.

You do realize that your saviors approval rating is at 36% right now, right? Liberal Bill left office with nearly twice that approval rating AFTER being impeached.. LOL

Political trends track over a very long period of time, and there is absolutely no denying that the world is becoming more liberal.. It will continue that trend, obviously.

This year the Canadians legalized same-sex marriage and their new "conservative" government isn't even making it an issue. I find that hilarious.

What's really funny is that Tom actually thinks I was admitting he's right.

Hmm.. I just checked the weather for the Hades zip code, and it's still quite warm.. so no.. I would never expect you to admit to anything. I expect you still think that if they stuck the feeding tube back in Terri Schiavo, she'd be a few physical therapy sessions away from doing the meringue.

I just thought that instead of letting you assume what my remedy is for the disaster that is Bush co., I'd write them myself.. albeit with a somewhat humorous and sarcastic tone. I mean.. come on.. isn't it hilarious that the Vice President of the gay hating club of America has a carpet munching daughter? It's hysterical.

Frankly.. I'm quite confident in across the board wins. My utopia is fiscal conservatism, and social liberalism. It's quite obvious what a disaster the Republicans are when it comes to budget matters.. but we really have made significant social progress despite the fact that the fundis control all 3 branches of government.

I've also thought that the left needs a defining moment to galvanize a sleep walking population. It might just be Alito and Roe v. Wade. I hope they over-turn it. It won't mean jack to abortion because that will always be legal in the US, but it sure as hell will wake up a lot of liberals, progressives, and civil libertarians.

Anybody taking wagers on the mid-terms?

Gravatar Anybody taking wagers on the mid-terms?

Bill Nelson is going by-by.
