So you think we should be allowed to carry guns in the office? Ya.. I can see that.. sitting in the conference room, 9mm's strapped to my side as I'm giving a presentation.
You are literally insane, and I'm quite convinced it's only a matter of time until you kill somebody you shouldn't have.
Personally.. I chose the more difficult route of training in the martial arts for years.. so I'm quite versed in situational awareness, and unarmed self-defense. I'm quite sure those people that were killed either hid under a desk, or took no steps to disarm the killer.
"According to witnesses from the scene, she had a 9 mm pistol and reloaded at least once during her rampage,"
Well, there you go...
But in the 25 years since I started training, I've only had one confrontation, and that was strictly unarmed all around.
There are 230 million people in this country. Something around 42,000 people die each year in car accidents. You obsess over 7 shot to death at an office, and want guns in every hand.
It's just weird..

What would be wrong with that?
You think cops are the only ones capable of carrying guns without them going off?
Guns are just tools............Very loud tools.

I've never said there is anything wrong with learning martial arts, more power to ya.
But I highly doubt you're as good a Chiun from Remo Williams.......
------
And I guess you were trying to say since she had to reload there was a chance someone could have confronted her?
It possible but highly doubtful. It doesn't take long to change a magazine.

It probably doesn't take you long to reload, but I doubt a derranged woman is an expert.
In any case, being proactive is better than just being paralyzed by fear and getting shot. Then again, nobody has ever pointed a gun at me, so who knows.. but I like to think I can keep my head... literally and figuratively.
But, the odds of that even being a consideration are many millions to 1. It's just bad luck for those 7 people after all. There's no reason to change an entire culture.
There is simply no way people are going to walk around an office with firearms. No way in the world. You can't even being to compare police officers to every day employees of run of the mill companies.
There's always a dick head in every office, and it would freak people out to no end if he was carrying a gun every day.
It's really just a bizzare idea. If you want to save more lives, get into the auto-safety business and figure out a way to stop the many thousands of deaths that happen each year in accidents. I'm not worried about some psycho shooting me. I'm worried about some dumbass soccer mom, putting on her makeup in the morning, and running me over in her lexus suv.
Where I live.. the odds on that happening are probably pretty high.

Well, that's one reason why you train.
Have you every heard this quote?
In an emergency situation,
you do not rise to the occasion,
but rather,
you revert to your level of training.
Regardless of whether or not you carry a gun I think the quote applies.
Then again, nobody has ever pointed a gun at me, so who knows.. but I like to think I can keep my head... literally and figuratively.
It might shock you to read this but I hope you wouldn't lose your head either. As much as I disagree with you, I don't wish an ill will upon you.

Farding? LOL that's really good..
You may be surprised, but I'm not the sort that thinks that everything is hunky dory all the time. I know bad things happen, even though the odds are really slim, so it's a good idea to be aware.
So many people seem to be in their own heads and not paying attention to what's going on around them. That's a constant problem on the road, or in any situation where there is some sort of danger.. a mining accident for instance..
I have this little game I play with myself when I'm out in public, or at work.. it's called "shit hits the fan". The game involves observing people around me, making snap judgements about what they're like, and having a contengency plan if the shit hits the fan.
Like at work.. I know the floorplan for the building I'm in.. quickest routes.. best cover routes.. best place to be to make a confrontation really short distance instead of a clear long distance.. etc..
It's not like I obsess on it really.. just try to always have a plan.. but I don't want to include a firearm in that..
My guess is that if rounds started going off at work, 99% of the people in my office would duck their heads and stop moving.. It would take about 5 seconds for me to be out of my cube and heading down the stairs..

Which begs an interesting question..
If you were at work, doing your thing, and rounds start going off, what would you do? Would you make a hasty exit, or maybe stay put, or would you try and observe the shooter and determine a plan to try and disarm him?
I'm sure it all depends on how close he/she is when it starts, but just in general.. be a hero, or save your ass?
