Gravatar So what's your point?

Gravatar "in the absence of ammunition, small arms and light weapons pose no danger.”

Yes and in the absence of light there is what?

Gravatar So what's your point?

Gravatar Looks like the Army has lowered recruiting standards AGAIN!!!

A decade after the Pentagon declared a zero-tolerance policy for racist hate groups, recruiting shortfalls caused by the war in Iraq have allowed "large numbers of neo-Nazis and skinhead extremists" to infiltrate the military, according to a watchdog organization.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks racist and right-wing militia groups, estimated that the numbers could run into the thousands, citing interviews with Defense Department investigators and reports and postings on racist Web sites and magazines.

Was that why they wouldn't let you join before? They will now!!!

Come on.. absolutely no reason not to enlist in the army if you support these wars.. single young man that knows his way around a gun..

Gravatar I think we'd be better off banning trolltarded people to their dreamy utopian commie countries than banning guns...
*cough-thomas-cough*

Gravatar Uh huh jimbobbillyjoe.. Ima commie lefty that would rather make 10 cents an hour in a commie country like china then make the fuckload of money that I do here.. uh huh..

But you really have absolutely no idea what my point of view on "gun control" is.. so I'll just spell it out for you..

Guns are not the issue.. the issue is inbred hill-billy montana compound branch davidian wannabie retards that insist every home be stocked with assault rifles, and armor penetrating rounds..

In short.. if the Canadians were killing each other left and right, I'd argue the issue is the guns since they have more per capita then we do. But, since they aren't killing each other to the toon of some 14k a year, and since Canada is basically a bunch of commie socialists like me.. reasonable deduction would point out that it's the right wing nutzoids that are the problem.

Oh.. and Iraqi "death squads" are roaming Baghdad executing sunni's on sight.. I'm sure you need to confront the islamofascist threat and sign up for the military and take them on, eh? There's freeance and democracy to spread in Iraq.. and before we start recruiting the severly mentally handicapped, ya'll should sign up and get your coward asses over there and shoot some rag heads, eh? Chances are pretty good you won't end up dead or in a wheel chair permanently..

Gravatar I'm going to have to go with Thomas on this one. The UN isn't taking my gun (singular) away, and I'm not worried about 1. registration 2. banning assault weapons and 3. requiring locks (not that the UN can do any of these things), because I have no concern about registering, I own no assault weapon nor do I have a desire too, and I keep my gun locked up, so this is a non issue to me. Until I feel at risk for losing my .32 Winchester deer rifle, I'm not worried.

But Thomas, maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but are you saying that the reason so many Americans die by gun violence is because of right-wing hate groops? That doesn't make sense because places where those nuts are, Idaho, Montana, etc., don't see per capita nearly the amount of murders as blue states like California and Michigan. These guys are freaks and maniacs but they're not the source of Americas violence.

Gravatar I suppose that's true. Urban crime has a big influence on the statistics.

There's basically two ways that I see it.. urban crime committed by young black men, spiralling out of control as it has become the acceptable culture of urban blacks to do so. It's cool to be a thug. D.C. has seen a huge explosion in this sort of crime, and so has my city of Dallas.

The other is southern white, what I call hillbilly, violence.

I really have a problem with urban black culture.. much in the same way that Bill Cosby has been talking about... and living in Dallas I see fringes of it when I leave my upscale white suburban neighborhood. I even took the public rail from north dallas to downtown for a hockey game because I planned to get bombed and didn't want to drive.. and they have cops that patrol some of the trains.. and I was standing next to a black kid.. 17, 18 something like that, and as the cop walked by, the kid pretended to reach for the cop's gun. After he did it, he smiled at me and chuckled.. what he didn't know was that he was really close to having the shit kicked out of him if he had got any closer to the cop's gun then he did.. and the rest of the way I didn't take my eye off him..

My partner also has to go into the heart of the hood on a regular basis for his real-estate business. He's a middle aged white guy driving a $75,000 car.. highly highly dangerous.. so he's going to get a honda, a glock, and a concealed carry permit.

That's the proper application of the 2nd amendment, and the U.N. is not trying to affect that.. so I don't know why gun freaks are uptight.

Gravatar By the way.. this is a fascinating exploration of why some people adhere so strictly to an ideology regardless of any other condition.

I just wonder.. this personality type.. like the people that are hard core religious (of whatever faith).. or hard core right wing, even stop to consider that there is this real scientific explanation for why they have managed to become completely convinced of that ideology.

Back in college I spent a lot of time studying German politics before and during the Nazi era, and the parallels that I see with the right wing in America today is simply frightening. I'm not saying people like Ox want to start gassing people.. then again.. if it were a bunch of Muslims, maybe so. In any case, it's the same sort of thinking, or rather un-thinking, that causes these problems we have.

The issue is, the greater (and more rational) American public has to stop being apathetic to these types of people.. we need to condemn this authoritarian thinking, and make them irrelevant in the public discourse.

That's proving to be a challenge.

Gravatar DEAN: The lead researcher in this field told me, he said, “I look at the numbers of the United States and I see about 23% of the population who are pure right-wing authoritarian followers.” They’re not going to change. They’re going to march over the cliff. The best thing to deal with them — and they’re growing, and they have a tremendous influence on Republican politics — The best defense is understanding them, to realize what they are doing, how they’re doing it and how they operate. Then it can be kept in perspective and they can be seen for what they are.

And this is a good opportunity to get some feedback from somebody that is in that 25%. Ox, you're absolutely convinced in your thinking, which perfectly matches the definition of what Dean and the studies are saying, but you're convinced this is all bullshit, and that you've rationally made up your own mind.

How is it that you can be such a blind follower, it fazes you not? I get the feeling that you're not super hardcore, like you'd find most of the people over at the FR and so on.. but you've certainly got most of the qualities described. Isn't that wierd for you, or does it give you a sense of comfort that you belong to something "strong"?

You might not go over the cliff, but you're certainly lock-step right up to the edge looking down.

Gravatar hey where the hell have you been?

Gravatar Would be ironic if he finally bagged himself one of those Islamist terraists he's been wanting to "take down" for ages.. and ended up in prison..

I kind of miss his monumental stupidity. It was easy fodder for rediculing right wingers on my blog.
