Oh my, such great posts that I could not decide which one to comment on...great recipes, wonderful topics from the conference. As a mother of a 15 yr old boy, the civilized part really applies. Your adorable outfits you sew and the things you knit are too, too precious!! Reminds me of the dresses my mom used to sew for me!! I loved all of them and could probably draw a picture of every one of them...loved that she gave love with her sewing!!! Thanks for sharing! and for those of you who don't go to Fellowship, you don't know what you are missing!!! Come see!!! -Sandra

How wonderful you were able to attend a Wholehearted Conference...I am a bit jealous! I would love to hear Sally speak, God has used her books to change my mothering journey...thanks for sharing about what you learned...she truly is an older woman teaching the younger, as God instructs...
God Bless!

Sarah,
I wish I would have known that you were at the conference! I was there too, and it would have been fun to meet...maybe next year! It was wonderful. As I was listening to Sarah speak, I couldn't help thinking how proud her parents must be at the beautiful, godly woman that she has become. They are such a sweet family. My daughter and I have established "tea time" She is four and a half and is just loving it! I was definitely blesssed by the experience.
Love,
Keri

Your post resonated with me! I wish I'd been at this conference...I'm going to research a bit to see where it was and such. We're in TX, too.
This little piece was a breath of fresh air for me...I'm in the thick of it, too!
Thanks for sharing so clearly and simply.

Sarah,
I am mostly a lurker, but wanted to comment on this post.
My children, 3 boys, are much older than your 3, being that they are all teenagers. So I am on the end of raising rather than the beginning. I so enjoy your stories about the antics at your house. They make me laugh and wince at the same time.
The thoughts you shared from the conference touched my heart. I still have work to do, but I can see the fruit from what my husband and I have already done. I loved your comments "church is important, sports not so much etc" . We tried hard to live up to that and I want to encourage you that is has worked and is working. My boys are not perfect by any means, but I am proud of them. Blessed by them. And thank God daily for His strength in motherhood.
Thank you for the encouragement to keep on with what I am doing. Your blog is an important ministry, I am blessed by it.
In Him,
Lori in snowy PA

I considered attending the one out here in Anaheim a few weeks ago, but knowing my husband would have just left for Iraq kinda threw that idea out. I was already hoping to go next year, and now you've officially sold me. I still remember when my mom went when I was little and the impact the conference had on her... I know it would be wonderful, and after a year of "single" parenting, I think I'll need the 30 hours without changing a diaper!

Thanks for sharing some of what you gleaned from the conference... I love the idea of civilizing our familes being a priority. Sometimes I feel like I am making too much of things with my girls, but if civility is the goal, it takes constant effort. Thanks for the reminder

Sounds like you learned quite a bit and were challenged in a good way! I was challenged as well this past weekend by our pastor's sermon concerning dating for our teens....need to digest and get my thoughts down on paper for that. I'll be praying for you as you seek to reach these goals!!

I accidentally hit publish too soon. I just wanted to say that even though it is an overwhelming, all-encompassing task to raise our children to be civilized, full-of-life grown-ups, we cannot settle for less than this. By re-arranging our priorities and looking at the big picture, our daily walk with our children becomes so much more than diapers, bottles, etc. It truly is a mission, and one I want to embrace completely.

Sounds like a fabulous conference! I'm right there with you on civilizing 2 boys! Last week, after baths, I heard this statement come from their room, "Let me smell your bottom and you can smell mine." I have lots more work to do in this area!

I have to tell you I LOVE your "phone drill." We might just steal that from you. For some reason, when I'm on the phone seems to be a great time for meltdowns and all sorts of chaos.
And a Happy Birthday to you! (We're almsot twins - mine's tomorrow!) - I hope your day is wonderful.

You took so much away with you from this conference, Sarah, I'm really glad you got to experience this and share it with other young moms out here.
I had to stop by here and wish you a happy birthday. I have no idea where the years have gone. I remember the first time I saw you, in the hospital when you were hours old.
Happy Birthday, sweet girl.

How interesting, Sarah! I love the part of 'speaking life' to our children. I am not cruel to my children either, but know that sometimes my frustrations are too evident to them. I must try that idea when our phone rings. I'm not on it often when they are awake, but at times I have to be and it seems those few minutes can make or break our day.
Thanks for sharing! Happy Birthday

Wow! If that was just a snippet of your weekend, your heart and mind must be overflowing right now. You just gave me a whole bunch of good stuff to think about all day. I was so intrigued, I went to see if there would be a conference in my area. There was... a month ago! Bummer. I'll have to watch for the next one. It sounds like it was so good.
I'm going to focus on being a civilizer today. It seems so basic and obvious, but I know I need to be a little more intentional about it around here. Those phone drills are excellent - I'm glad I'm not the only one whose kids think it's time for mutiny when they hear that ring. Thanks, Sarah!

I went to the conference last year.
It was so very inspiring. She is a wonderful speaker, you feel like you just had a cup of tea in her living room with her instead of listening to her speak in a crowd of over 100.
Glad you were inspired!

Wow, I simply came over to wish you a happy birthday, Sarah, but I feel like I've been given the gift. What a lovely conference it was! I've looked over at Sally's blog a couple of times, usually to your suggestion, and have never left there but what I felt refreshed and ready to reprioritize.
Blessings to you on your birthday, my dear bloggy friend.
I wish you successful phone drills and many sweet wishes come true. xxxooogretchen
