I think the Marx Brothers covered it in Duck Soup Ross.
Something like this seems to apply to the 'official' explanation:
"Who you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?" - which, to further the analogy a little is always attributed to Groucho but was actually spoken by Chico - dressed up as Groucho.
There's another line from the film that also comes to mind. Remember this:
Don't look now, but there's one man too many in this room, and I think it's you. ?
lots of riffing possibilities there - no?
It would actually be pretty funny - if it weren't so sad - which, on its own, has a kind of Marxian 'ring' to it.

Yes, they don't seem to have realized that, having found themselves at the bottom of a hole, they should stop digging.
But that OK with me, actually -- gives us lots more to blog about and keeps the story going.

GW - Ya, and.....If Mr. Malouf is correct they were actually on their way to the main/real demo area before the kids outed them to do, what exactly?

Cathie-- I'm with Ms. Klein here when she called the surveillance the 'new democracy'. Thus, while I agree with you re: the blog fodder I actually think this is much bigger, and more important than that. Dana, at the Galloping Beaver, made this point quite eloquently recently. recently.
