The same diseases that the Safe Injection Site helps to curtail from spreading, have surprising ways of migrating from the Junkies Etc. who according to the Harperites should maybe die, as the Wages of Sin.
Perhaps the Foreign Minister's ex-girlfriend would help illustrate how the strata lines of society are often crossed, if only temporarily. Like, let me see, Cabinet Minister's squeeze used to be married to a Biker who most likely wasn't a virgin before marriage, who MAY have at some time had contact (intimate contact) with someone who used one of the Biker's products by injection with a perhaps less than sterile needle - anyway, it doesn't take a rocket scientist (or an epidemiologist) to visualize potential lines of transmission (vectors). Even the Stephen's own children are eventually at risk, unless they never go against dad's wishes and indeed stay pure until marrying another virgin - might happen! This assumes they never become curious about, dare I say it, DRUGS!
The above totally doesn't even take into consideration that some folks contract HIV or HepC from such innocuous sources as their dentist or other health care providers despite efforts to practice proper hygiene.
The point I guess I'm trying to make is that even if this is a POLICY decision, when determining policy, the prevention of the spread of disease and public health concerns should ALWAYS trump religious/moral/ideological agenda. Until the reign of Harper and the PsuedoCons I can't think of a Canadian government that EVER felt and/or acted otherwise.
After all, Ronnie Raygun wouldn't even allow the word AIDS cross his lips in public, UNTIL his good buddy Rock Hudson turned out to be dying of same.
