Gravatar "Question is, which postion did he play?"

And a very good question, Ross K.

Here's a link to a very interesting exchange between Joy MacPhail and Rick Thorpe from hansard, March 3, 2004 pm. Thorpe was Minister of Provincial Revenue and seems "unsure" of what he can "recall" when it comes to meeting with Eric Bornmann and the Pilothouse crew. Also he doesn't seem to recall too much about any anything about finances, The Treasury Board meetings related to the sale of BC Rail...well, he doesn't recall much about anything MacPhail queries him on. If you haven't already read it, it's worth the read: (from section 1905 - 1935)

The outside world really will have reason to think British Columbians are strange, when they see us having to re-interpret the silences as well as the zealous over-enthusiasms published as NEWZ in the local daily press.

I noted a brief flurry (again) of non-news today about that distinguished top-cop, Paul Battershill, who was sent on paid leave of absence for unspecified "personnel issues" which we may never see explained in print. But does that stop the zealous over-enthusiasms? No-o-o.

The NEWZ reports just keep coming: Oh, it could be this ... it could be that ... and if this, the punishment is one thing; if that, the punishment is something else; or it may be that the former Chief of Police is never accused of anything whatever ... and is never punished ... blah, blah, etc.

Victoria had a full NEWZ article again today with no news in it; Vancouver Sun made no mention of it; The Province had only the first 3 paragraphs which then disappeared later in the day.

I can't think of anything which could so easily be interpreted as saying that Victoria's former Chief of Police is an honourable man whose evidence at the Basi Virk trial will be important.
