Fares up, ridership almost nil for us.
The float plane fare for unaccompanied minor is only $14 more than the half day of lost wages involved in travelling littlun via the ferry, let alone the cost involved in parking, ferry fare, gas etc. Littlun spends much less time travelling too, which is way better for her.
Now it is just one or two trips to the island a year in the car (to visit the parental unit and recharge our batteries at the family cabin)

GAB--
It's getting to be less and less and less for us too (and we can actually kinda/sorta/almost afford it - don't know how most others do it).
Guess that means a whole lotta less fries sold for Mr. Toigo et al.
Of course less ridership could be their diabolical plan if they...
a) want to demonstrate that a 'competitor' is needed because it's just too darn expensive to run the system (welcome to 1959!)...
b)want to make all post 7pm sailings 'truck' friendly....
Sheesh.

We see today that Mr. Hahn has carefully and objectively reviewed the situation and concluded that he and his four Executive VPs are paid appropriately considering their outstanding results.
David Hahn, B.C. Ferries CEO, guided the company to declining ridership and rising fares. He acquired three foreign built ferries that function poorly compared to the previous three cheaper, BC built Spirit Class ships. He earned $1,034,680 including salary and bonuses during fiscal 2009 and Executive VPs Michael Corrigan, Glen Schwartz, Robert Clarke and Trafford Taylor had compensation packages for the same period that ranged from $485,509 to $561,747.
Hahn's predecessor earned about 1/5 of his current remuneration. Washington State Ferries' CEO earns now about 1/3 of Hahn's salary.
Hahn has had one major success. He leads the BC Government executive salary leapfrog contest. Who's next to advance? Podmore now has to manage the $1 billion stadium refit. That ought to be worth a major raise.
