Forgive me if I asked this already, but where did you say your parents live?
My parents have a cabin in Mesick, MI which is 45 min southish of Traverse. I also have family that lives there.
Wondered where your 45 min drive to Traverse was from? 
Another possible obstacle is that the Bayshore half is closed; if you haven't registered for it yet, then you're probably going to have to do the Dexter-A2....
Becky- My parents live about 45 minutes northeast of Traverse City, on Clam Lake near Bellaire.
F- Well, shit. Guess I will be doing Dexter-Ann Arbor. That whole "you must finish in less than 2.5 hours or risk getting hit by cars" thing is pretty intimidating though. Another reason I was hoping the Bayshore could be my first one, I was hoping to avoid the pressure of finishing under a time crunch. Hopefully it won't be an issue.
