Witsandnuts Actually the descendants of Rizal no longer have a say on the Rizal shrine. The National Historical Institute (NHI) is the agency in charge of managing the shrine.

I'm from Laguna but would you believe I've never visited Rizal's house yet? The reason for painting it green is shallow. I suppose they've weighed the consequences before the repainting, to include discussion with Rizal's grandchildren.

Well Kayni I figure the actual house is still very well preserved. They just thought it would be better if they painted it green to reflect his surname. Ewan ko ba sa kanila! :D

why can't they just preserve it the way it is. i don't get it why they'd have to paint it green just to highlight the meaning of his last name. his home is part of great history. preserving his home should be suffice.

Wil I didn't want to glorify its new 'green' look so I purposely didn't post a picture of it on my blog :D
Like the article said, the ugly green color stole the limelight from the historical value of the place. It takes away the nostalgic and romantic notions of the house.

I had to search all over the internet to see a picture of the green Rizal house. If I just saw the house and didn't know it was Rizal's house, I'd say the green paint job wasn't bad. But since its a historical house, perhaps leaving it as-it-was is a better choice.
