I've argued with others in the past that in arguing against criminalization we need to address this sort of thinking. Because it does need to be acknowledged that abortion isn't beautiful or easy -- it's ugly, it's painful, and it should be a last resort.

The appropriate way to approach the anti-criminalization argument is to explain how banning abortion is more destructive than allowing it, and dismantling the myth that people run out and get abortions on a whim, just because they can. "The right to choose" isn't a compelling argument at all.
