Gravatar Oh man, your garden is beautiful! Ours is so huge that the weeds tend to get ahead of us. But yours is decorative, and beautiful. Did you make the bean tower or buy it? We're trying an experiment, but we already know we won't repeat it... it didn't work out as planned lol...

Gravatar Thanks. Well, since our soil is bad... we have the raised bed/no-dig set up, which lends itself to artfulness. But I'd rather have the good soil! LOL!

That tower is from Gardener's Supply. I usually am DIY with my supports, but this one was on sale last fall and I figured it would be a great spacesaver. It was a good investment, I think.

Gravatar We thought about doing raised beds, but there's really no point with the soil here being as good as it is. Heck, this is the first year I've ever gotten radishes that looked just as inviting and well-shaped as the ones in the picture of the seed envelope. We could seriously be selling these, they're so beautiful, except that we're eating them all.

Our pole beans are currently starting to climb up our water tower on deer netting. The idea was good, but the application of it just didn't work out the way I expected. That, and the beans are going to get squished every time we use the water tower. Ah well... live and learn. We have new plans for next year's garden.

Gravatar I admire your commitment to the process!!

Would you believe that I spent the better part of this morning look at a map from the 1930s re: soil in Texas? I'm fascinated by how varied it is. Even though it's a big state, there seems to be a lot of diversity. Heck, my own county has at least four different types.

Our radishes came out bitter. Not sure why. I think I planted them too late this year. They've been gone for months, of course. It's in the 100s here all week. Ack!

Gravatar We're still in the low 70s during the day, and low 60s at night, sometimes as low as low 50s. Our spinach JUST bolted yesterday, and I picked most of it and we had it for dinner with the first batch of edible pod peas. Boy it's nice to be able to do that. I'm so sick of frozen veg. Heh... Unfortunately, we just lost all (I think) of our broccoli to some ravening furry beast. Tonight at dusk, Gray will be o ut there with the pellet gun, and if he's lucky, he'll save my cabbages and we'll have hassenpfeffer to eat alongside them.

Gravatar I like your commitment to livin' local. =)

Gravatar Well... we made our committment when we moved here. By moving here, we used up ALL our financial resources. Living local is about all we can afford to do now. LOL...
