I guy I work with pointed out, just yesterday, that if they shut down the state government it's not going to be possible for us to file for unemployment as hose offices will be closed. Nice huh?

I think you summed up the state of the whole country, not just Illinois! It's a sorry site to see, that's for sure!

Hi Pam,
This is just such a damn mess and effects so many people. My daughter got her lay off notice from child care connection. As a state employee I go through this every year but this has got to be the worst and with so many people. Several thousand people showed up in Springfield last Tuesday and stood in that hot sun. Our local elected officals went up the back stairs and avoied talking to them. I will remember this shit when it's time to vote again.

I would much rather see an increase in the state Income Tax than the museum tax. I don't like paying taxes, but you sure make a point of how those taxes help provide needed services.

I think some people honestly don't give a shit. They think "those people" have made poor decisions and they shouldn't have to spend "their money" to help them.
But I've been one of "those people"-a young mother that recieved WIC, that has taken her children for shots at the health department and I know how much of a help that was for me and my kids. And to those that say "well, you shouldn't have had kids when you were young," I ask, did you EVER have sex before you were married? Before you finished college? If so, don't judge.
And I honestly believe any of us can become on of "those people" due to job loss, illness, etc.
