I am going through the same fun. 41 minutes at the SS office: 40 sitting and 1 talking to them. And they didn't ask for my passport, driver's license OR SS card. Just looked at my marriage license.
Next stop, DMV. What day/time did you go? I hope to not have to spend two hours there!!
Jeep, I went on a Tuesday...early afternoon. If I'd have thought, I'd have waited. They're closed on Mondays, so maybe they were just extra busy.
We still have all our copies of our marriage license...and now what do ya do with them? I say...shred em' or have a nice bonfire!
This is a large part of why I kept my maiden name. Changing it seemed like a LOT of work!
All ya'all ain't very familiar with the way you take care of stuff at the DMV. People who are sane don't go the one in Peoria. We go to Lacon. It's nice, calm, and you don't feel you are in an episode of jerry springer.
So, which do you like better, your old name or your new one?
I have a hyphenated name and considered just keeping my maiden name. I don't understand why so many women automatically change their names... I know it's traditional, but why? I guess it just sets off some of my feminist bells; it seems tied to the past when women were basically property of their husbands.
Jen, I thought about keeping my old name...but it wasn't really my name, anyway. My maiden name, I mean. I went ahead and changed it because I think, in the long run, it'll cause less confusion.
And actually, I like my new name better than the old one. I caught a lotta flak because of that name...especially bein a nurse. heh
My "feminist bells" rarely get set off anymore...I figure life's too short. I stand up for what I believe in, I say pretty much what I think and I'm happy with who I am. Very few people dare treat me as if I'm somehow "less than male". hehe
I know better than to treat her as "less than male" I do however know JUST how to treat her as "other than male." nudge nudge wink wink.
Just leave yours as is. Don't even change it.
