This one stopped me cold - it's no secret what goes on in theocracies, but to see the pic, brought it home like never before.

I haven't paid close attention, but I know that Iran has morality police. I forget their name, but they exist.

God, this hurt to read.

Meanwhile, in Israel...

http://educatedeclectic.blogspot...ets-of- tel.html

And I can almost guarantee, that those idiots supporting Jr's blather about "Standing With The Oppressed & Against The Oppressor" will NOT say one word about this, neither will any of the modern day pharisees in our country

Except Fred Phelps, you just know he's going to celebrate when he hears this crap

YOU GUYS HAVE IT ALL WRONG
IF THEY DID THAT HERE WE WOUL BE MUCH BETTER OFF

Self-identity issues, Bob?

Feel free to join your inbred relatives over in Freeperland at any time, Bob.

Just seeing that photo ... I just want to cry.

Bob:

We're here.

We're queer.

We've ALWAYS been here, and without us it may well have been that we would have lost the Revolutionary War, so you owe us some gratitude.

Get used to it.

How about lesbians? Or do they exist? God what a sick world.

As a straight guy myself, I've always found it curious that the homophobic dregs of society-at all levels-seem to think about two guys having sex FAR more often than any of my gay or bi friends

As someone pointed out above, identity issues to be sure with Bob all right

Best fact about Lesbians to throw in the faces of any of the homophobic dregs in this society

Lesbians have the LOWEST rates of STD's of any group measured, which tells me it's kinda hard to say God hates Gays

it'd be interesting to see how the freepers would react to this article:

1. call for something similar here (or imprisonment at least)

2. feign a faux mild outrage and site it as a reason to invade Iran and kill muslims.

3. site it as a reason that the Muslim faith is evil (you know, their type of Christians only demonize, discriminate and want to imprison.. they don't execute)

other?

Pam, tried to email you with this (thread was pulled), took a screenshot before it was.. had some more info. but emails are being bounced back.

Funny how they automatically claimed that the left isn't concerned... yet if you google it it's almost only gay and left sites that are reporting it. They really live in a cloistered world don't they?

Is Bob G.C?

Doubt it, Holly. His usual style is to post a question, not make such a loudly, firmly hateful statement such as that.

Homosexuality is an aberrant sexual behavior, and as such I have complete sympathy and understanding for those who are suffering from this condition. Practiced by consenting adults within the confines of their own private lives, homosexuality is not a threat to society. Those consenting adults practicing this behavior in privacy should not be hassled by a society which respects the sanctity of private sexual life. But when the attempt is made to drag this practice out of the closet and into the public square in an "in your face" attempt to force society to accept and recognize this behavior as being just as legitimate and normal as the natural man/woman relationship, every effort should be made, including force if necessary, to halt this effort.

--Convicted Terrorist Eric Rudolph

See, Trey, Christians are better than Muslims! As long as you keep it private and don't go to any Atlanta gay bars, you're fine.

Sorry, but I just have to write this: FUCKING murderers!!!!!

Yes, if the religious nuts in this country had their way, they would want to do this too. People here in the USA who think like those in Iraq, they are NOT Christian ... and they are NOT right!

Damm right, they are the American Taliban.

I'm truly outraged.

Thank goodness here in America if we are attacked we fight back. Remember Stonewall Riots of 1969? Let that be a lesson if anyone try it here!

Hatred is not a family value!
And it is NOT part of Allah or God's way!

Ugh, that was heartbreaking to read. I just cannot believe how much raw hatred can exist in this world.

I also don't see how different the Freeps are from the people who did this crime?

Why the hell is tolerance among all people such a hard concept to understand? How close minded do you have to be to spew this hatred.

I hope there is a time when we can all live and respect each other and admit that everyone is different rather then condemning those that don't live the same lifestyle as you.

I would especially expect the United States, being that bastion of freedom and all, to embrace the ideas of diversity and tolerance but, every day, I grow more and more ashamed of this once great country. No longer can I (or would want to) hold my head up and say "I'm an American".

Ugh. Sorry for the rant but the article and the disgusting Freep Hate Party made me so ill.

Here are some things to do:

Contact the Department of State to:

Urge (or demand) that Secretary Rice and the US publicly condemn these executions as gross violations of the human rights of gay men and lesbians.

Urge (or demand) that the US pressure the EU to table a resolution at the UN Human Rights Commission condeming Iran's human rights violations, which the EU had refused to do for the past three years.

http://contact-us.state.gov/ask_form_cat/ ask_form_secretary.html

Contact your Congressional Representative and Senators to:

Urge them to contact Secretary Rice to make the same requests (or demands) above.

Rep: http://www.house.gov/writerep/
Senators: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/ senators_cfm.cfm

You may want to write to the Iranian diplomatic mission in the US as well.

Damn, that was tough to read. I am so sad.

And I am just as unnerved about the freepers' comments. Truly sociopathic responses to two innocent mens' deaths. Truly, truly sad, and horrifying.

I can't imagine anyone on a liberal site anywhere gloating someone else's death. Why is it so acceptable - and laudable - to those freepers??

Sick and disturbing.

I am so disgusted I could screm.

I sent this to the secretary of state (yes Rice) today:

Please dear god you have to make sure that the killing of innocent babies for crimes that are about being a real human being are stopped. The murder today of two Iranian youth for supposed "gay" crimes highlights the nightmare of a world we live in. The Bush administration is not making the world more tolerant ,and the United States has a duty to make the world more tolerant. I hope the United Nations can muster some small cry here. It is evil and unexcusable when young lives are lost to what should really be classified as acts of "terrorism". We need to fight that type of terror. I wonder what went through those young men's minds today before they were hung. Perhaps: "I only loved?" I hope you consider this message.

sorry for my poor spelling--i was furious when i wrote it and posted it

there is no contest obviously---but pam was the first post this--thank you

Absolutely disgusting.

Does anyone know if the International Human Rights Equality Resolution ever passed from 2001?

http://www.amnestyusa.org/ countr...5256D0A0066B8E5

I'm still so sad about these young men. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are other instances we don't know about. My prayers are with our brothers & sisters (gay or straight) all over the world who suffer injustices.

Dios es Amor. God is Love.

A year or two ago they hung a teenaged girl for being promiscuous, I believe. The judge hung her himself.

And really, that freeper drek about how conservatives aren't against gays is just bullshit. It's sorta like saying we really promote women's rights while we turn a blind eye to women being reduced to second class citizens in the new "democracy" of Iraq.

This one stopped me cold - it's no secret what goes on in theocracies, but to see the pic, brought it home like never before.

You know, I have been on the far left of Left for some time. Socialist, actually.

And I have been arguing for a long time that the current Left harshness to Israel and to Jews is really a tactical error - especially in conjunction with the current Left alliance with Palestine and Islam.

The enemy of our enemy is NOT our friend.

My real name is Mobeen Shirazi, as some of you know. And if you don't know, then you know now. And, if you can find Shiraz on a map, then you can make a real, solid guess about where my ancestors lived - and you would be right in making the assumptions associated with my name: I am a Persian, I have relatives in the Middle East, I am the American-born child of immigrants, and I was once a Muslim.

Even though I was raised here in the USA, I had a healty fear of Islam by age 6 even though my parents were "Western" Muslims. I had that fear of Islam by the time I was six because my Western-Educated Muslim parents traveled with me to Pakistan for a summer so I could have a proper Summer-School religious education.

As a six year old getting a Muslim education in General Zia's Pakistan, I got to see simimlar executions. The executions were for similar reasons . . . with the ultimate goal being putting "the Fear of God" in me.

But that stint in Pakistan was not all I got to endure: my Western-Muslim parents - parents who lived in an upper-middle-class suburb; who drove gas-guzzling luxury yachts; and (perhaps most importantly) a mother who adored Estee Lauder makeup, Chanel fragrance, and trendy clothes - sent me back two more times.

I knew my Islam well. So much so I "earned" a Boy Scout religious award that was presented by Charles Khalil Alawan (of Ford Motor Company back in the Jacques Nasser days) at the Islamic Center of America on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan.

Let me tell you frankly - by the time I had that award? Inside, I was a total athiest: the concept of god I was taught was the classic Islamic model: hateful, wrathful, angry, punishing, and unpredictable.

I have argued long and hard in Left forums and have been repeatedly dismissed for saying that Islam is neither a Liberals nor a Gay person's friend.

Well, now you have a picture to give some small insight as to what 23 years of my life was like. Sure, my 23 years were diluted because I lived in Ohio, not Omman or Karachi or even Shiraz.

But, let me tell you frankly, Islam is not a Queer or Liberal friend. PERIOD.

As for the Jewish thing, given those who have seen me post on that?

Let me be clear on this one, too: I was an athiest for a long, long time. A day came where I was open to the idea of a god-concept, and what I found via my own investigation and experiences was that Judaism is (1) compatible with being human, (2) is very tolerant in most all it's forms (with one key exception - but every family has one freak in the house), (3) accepts me as who I am, (4) in three formal movements, allows me to get married to a nice Jewish boy, (5) is very compatible with Left politics, economics, and social views.

So . . . I converted: Ex-Moslem who formally converted to Judaism.

Anyway - T H A N K Y O U, Pam, for the post: it's nice to know that someone out there keeps seeing what I already know, via personal experience, already exists.

Poor chaps - I hope that, some day, they are somehow vindicated.

'Bean

Clarification:

I don't promote oppressing Muslims: liberalism is, in my view, incompatible with that sort of behavior.

I don't thing getting in bed with Muslims, however, is *REMOTELY* a good idea.

Wait a minute. I thought liberals were evil atheists who hated religion, and now I find out that they revere Islam. Which is it? American politics is so confusing to watch from afar.

Canadian,

There has been, in the USA and in Canada, some Leftist push to start "working with" Islam and "accepting" Islam.

I'm a leftist - and I don't think an alliance with Islam is a good idea given how Islam deals with women, gays/lesbians, science, and differing opinions.

As far as Islam and Western Liberalism . . . the mix is not the mish-mash you suggest . . . but it is certainly no hug-fest the Berkley-class Liberals suggest, either.

AND - as far as being religious AND liberal?

I regard the details as my own personal business - my choice is my choice alone: that would be the difference between a religious conservative and a religious liberal (outside the fact I'm also obviously neither Muslim or Christian).

Totally disgusting and against God's ways! Things like this make me sick!

The Deity is highly displeased at the Creation, or at least the fucked-up human members. This picture is enough to make me want to believe in hell after death for the cruel ones.

As for liberals and Islam: There's a big difference between acknowledging that some solution, other than The Final Solution, has to be constructed for the displaced Palestinians, while still maintaining reasonable Israeli Jewish security, and "being in bed with Islam". Most leftists are looking for some solution whereby Palestinians get some place to live normal lives and Israeli Jews aren't pushed into the ocean - ie, a compromise. Unfortunately, the neighboring and better off Muslim states have been rather inhospitable to Palestinians, who are regarded as the lowest of the low by their co-religionists.

Bean, there's also a problem some educated liberals have about demonising ALL Muslims. Not only does it seem unrealistic that all 1 billion Muslims are ipso facto assholes, but some of us know non-asshole (or apparently non-asshole) Muslims through university or work. In my work at a medical center, I know nice men named Osama and Mohammed, and nice women named Ghazala and Zahra (all physicians, and one of the women was lay president of the local immigrant's mosque for a year or two). I am not going to pretend that these people are the sort that would have no problem with their child being gay, but I don't see them as materially different from the average Lutheran-Missouri Synod member (conservative denomination, but not ranters).

Man-in-the-street Islam, any type of sharia, any type of political Islam have lost a sense of a charitable and loving God. I have heard the common Quranic and literary tag "in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful", and wonder why a majority of at least the male half of the 1 billion appear to have never heard this.

I might add, the Muslims I know personally are scientists, physicians, and one artist, all immigrants. I have always felt that immigrants and foriegn students are not necessarily representatives of their class in their homeland. Many immigrate to live a freer life, and not just to make more money.

Bean, I have to wonder about your parents allowing you to see an execution at age 6. By any civilized standard that seems extraordinarily neglectful.

My heart is very heavy after seeing the photo of those two boys. May their murderers burn in the hell of their worst nightmare for eternity.

Bean, I have to wonder about your parents allowing you to see an execution at age 6. By any civilized standard that seems extraordinarily neglectful.

It was not the parents, Nancy.

It was the educators at the Islamic School in Karachi - and I also need to add it was the sort of school where high-powered diplomats and educators sent their children.

You know who I mean . . . I mean precisely people like the Muslims you know personally.

29 years of live-in experience INSIDE the homes and added language fluency have given me sufficient experience to say to you, sincerely, "buy what story you want - I was one of those people and now I'm out: nothing you say will change my mind for their own slaps in my face taught me the lessons I needed to learn."

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, Beh koon-eh shomah.

i too was sickened by this story and photo.perhaps this will give some liberals pause to think before advocating political correctness.although i do not believe in god , none of my friends who do would suggest it would be ok to kill someone for a sex act between consenting adults.people tend to forget what happned under the taliban.

i cant help thinking what these two boys might have become.perhaps teachers , maybe lawyers.they might have raised families.this is such a horrible crime against humanity.

Honestly, does anyone expect anything less in a fundamentalist religious regime? It seems to me that any religious fundi has a really hard time doing research and putting any effort into educating himself when confronted by a "sin" as dictated by his book of crap - the bible included. Homosexuality is biological and environmental. There is no debate about this in the biological community. Study after study reveals it is NOT a choice. These young boys were murdered by illiterate mythology-believing scum. As far as this administration condemning this, good luck - they are just as ignorant as the fundi Iranians, and just as intolerant as well - all based on the book of crap (bible). Hey, Dubya, still believe the earth is flat?

Homosexuality is biological and environmental. There is no debate about this in the biological community. Study after study reveals it is NOT a choice.

who cares if i were a choice???that does not give anyone the right to kill someone .who the hell are they hurting?
