Hard to come up with 365 good questions, without repeating oneself, I think. Assuming it's every day.
Let's say you ask now, "How Will the Church Deal with Witches and Homosexuals?" Then in November, you ask, "Pillory or Burning at the Stake-What to Expect from the Church?"
But you see, they're essentially the same question. henway | Email | Homepage | 05.27.06 - 10:03 am | #

Great Letter to the Editor from a blogger in Spartanburg, SC. I am sending to my str8 allies as a template for their future letters to the editor of their hometown rags.
• Supporting gay rights not slap at marriage
Karen Jo Gounaud claims “Attacking traditional marriage has become the activists’ most important effort in this culture war” in her May 18 column, “Voters should protect marriage.”
I am an “activist.” I have been married 12 years. I have two small children. I have no interest in hurting traditional marriage nor is my marriage threatened by the inclusion of gay Americans in our society.
My most important effort, as an activist, is standing up and demanding that my gay friends be granted equal rights. They pay into our system and deserve either equality or a refund. There is no need for statistics to prove anything about them. Good and bad comes in all shapes, colors, sizes and sexual orientations. Every person in South Carolina has a friend, or brother, sister or other relative who is gay. If you love them, the least you can do is stand up for their equality on Nov. 7 and vote “No” to this discriminatory amendment.

I just stumbled across this in a story about a murder. Does the wording here sound a little weird, or ultra-pc, or is it just that I haven't had my coffee yet this morning?
Both (victim and suspect) were known methamphetamine users. Police have not detailed what they think was the motive behind the slaying.
“This caused a lot of people in the methamphetamine community to contact us and offer the information they’ve heard on the street. Quite a few tips have come through..." Paul in SF | Email | Homepage | 05.27.06 - 11:01 am | #

Joe Lieberman's sorry ass needs to be retired now. He is getting a good challenge in Connecticut right now, and if Santa gets my letter, Joe will be put out to pasture and just spend his future as a lobbyist/shill for war profiteers.

Here's a tidbit from blogforamerica.com:
Joe Lieberman has won strong support from Republicans. Vice President Cheney calls him "a fine U.S. Senator." Republican Congressman Chris Shays and Fox News Commentator Sean Hannity have both endorsed him. Even President Bush loves Lieberman—there are rumors he has been considered for a post in Bush's cabinet.
OK, to be fair he has cast some votes I approve of but there are some other ball-busters I just can't take. Plus, I've had about all the middle-of-the-road moderation I can handle. (and those terms have lost about 90% of their meaning in the past decade) konagod | Email | Homepage | 05.27.06 - 7:17 pm | #

Lieberman was for the war then, he is for the war now, and has absolutely no regrets about getting the US into this fiasco... not that his wrinkled old ass was ever in the line of fire.
Yes, Joe and Tipper Gore were on this crusade about dirty music contaminating our American kids.

The important thing, folks, to remember is not to be defensive around here. If you didn't know something about Joe Lieberman or Tipper Gore, this is a good place to find out. I myself once believed Nancy Reagan bought off the rack. You see? Even I can be taken in. So information sharing can be a way cool thing.

Holly in Cincinnati, why don't you refresh our collective memories on where you're coming from. Why do you think we should be supporting Lieberman?
Details please. "You need a set of asthetic guidelines to put it in social perspective, I think."

And I'd like to add something about Lieberman. This is kind of risky but I'll try my best to set it up correctly.
This is really going off in a different direction from what we're discussing here which is Lieberman's positions on issues and whether he should be re-elected.
Gore made a tactical mistake in selecting Lieberman as his running mate, much the same way Mondale made a mistake in selecting Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. I think it would be interesting to debate this in blogworld and I'm sure it would be quite spirited.
Is it wrong to factor in regional bias in developing an election strategy?
I think so, but let's get back to reality: Lieberman probably cost the Gore/Lieberman ticket hundreds of thousands of votes in the bigoted deep-South.
Gore's mistake was thinking he would have the South sewn up because he himself was a Southerner. By introducting Lieberman as his running mate, perhaps he thought that would help secure the northeast.
Only because I grew up in the deep-South can I comment on this. There are plenty of people in the deep-South who are not only still suspicious of New Englanders, but you throw in the "observant Jew" aspect, and you are guarantee to alienate huge numbers of voters. And this isn't restricted to the deep-South but I use that as an example because it's most pronounced there.
Had Gore chosen any white male other than Lieberman we probably would have avoided the fiasco of the 2000 election. In choosing Lieberman, Gore might as well have chosen Cynthia McKinney as his running mate, in the eyes of many bigot voters.
Again, if I may quote Woody Allen, "I'm not discussing politics or economics. This is foreskin."
I think the point I'm trying to make here is how nasty the entire process of elections has become. In order to make yourself viable, you have to pander to some extent. I do hope someday we can move beyond that. konagod | Email | Homepage | 05.27.06 - 9:34 pm | #

Kona, I was trying to let Holly off the hook, not make her defensive. You shouldn't have asked her to

Senator Lieberman thinks it's okay that rape victims brought to a Catholic (or other pro-life) hospital are denied vital emergency contraception, stating that they could, after the rape exam, simply take a short trip to another hospital to get the medication (Plan B). A blogger named Connecticut Bob suggested he provide maps for rape victims, about which I wrote earlier this month. litbrit | Email | Homepage | 05.28.06 - 8:52 am | #

henway, I don't see where I was being "dense" or defending Lieberman. All I wanted was more of Holly's perspective instead of her one-liners that he is an actual Democrat and we should support him.
Oh sure, we can all deliver rebuttles but it's like playing pin the tail on the donkey if we have no idea why Holly feels so strongly about Lieberman. Rather than deliver a blanket rebuttle I would prefer to nail it to something specific in this case. konagod | Email | Homepage | 05.28.06 - 10:52 am | #

If Holly thought Lieberman was a genuine Democrat, or on higher moral ground than a bucket of shit, then Holly just didn't know much about Lieberman. There is no defense for Lieberman, as I've said a few times, so there's no point rubbing Holly's nose in her prior lack of knowledge on the topic; better to share information. henway | Email | Homepage | 05.28.06 - 5:03 pm | #
