A Revolution is the Solution

What does it take to bring down a company like MMG? I sure would like to. Do you think there is a possibilty of a company like 180 solutions helping to do that?

Gravatar In some crazy way, its entirely possible if they get wind of it (and they will do shortly with any luck).

Assuming of course those MMM guys are the right ones! Looks like it, but you never know...

Gravatar In one of your previous posts you mentioned that this lovely (nasty) installed package was coming wrapped in an episode of "Family Guy"...if that's the case, why doesn't someone report these clowns (and 180) to the copyright authorities?

The way I see it, they're wreaping the proceeds of a crime.

And a P.S. -> Damn fine work Paperghost. DAMN fine work.

Gravatar hi Biscuit - thanks

Funnily enough, I did - but when you do things like that, you will generally get your email opened and then hear nothing for absolutely ages. They opened it, now we just have to wait and see...

Gravatar Well i gues you would be happy to see this then Metrix hacked
if it is there real site again i have a screenshot of the hack here

peace

Gravatar I don't agree with sites being hacked - as a security consultant its totally against the ethics of my role. Can't condone it at all, whoever the target!

Gravatar so you want the spam/popups/malware/spyware/.... i could go on. Its companies like these that are ruining the internet. To protect your slef these days from these types of "crap apps" as i like to call them, you basically have to be a "Super Advanced Computer User". What if Grampa Joe gets this stuff on his computer. Do you want to spend countless hours cleaning his system every week? Do you want to spend coultless hours teaching him safe surfing and such? I didnt think so. As i dont condone all hacking, hacking like this is great to see because it lets these companies know when thay have gone to far. And since your just a consultant why should you care anyway, your not incharge of any networks, you just say "buy this, buy that, i think this, i think that"

anyways just me ranting, I guess I am on the other side of the net folks, the side that wants justice brought againts these companies, either legal or vigilante style.

peace

Gravatar Actually, I have a hand in plenty of networks, and I have many other roles besides this one - I apply in practice everything I mention on this website and others besides.

I just don't agree with webpage defacements on the principal that if I suddenly said it was okay to do, I couldn't really complain if someone ever did it to me. We had Spywarewarrior.com hacked not so long ago, and it caused nothing but problems. Not something I'd wish on anyone. Also, I'd hate to think those who oppose P2P will take the guys who hacked the site as somehow representative of the P2P community as a whole. That would suck big time!

And I don't tell anyone to buy anything either

Gravatar Any one for terms of service complaints against MMG , david.poch@telus.com is the abuse contact for the isp , already made mine

Gravatar A related installation practice is where adware is distributed side by side with license key generators. The document available at http://www.kephyr.com/spywaresca...2005-06-11- nero shows 180 Search Assistant and other software offered along with a key generator for Nero CD burning software.

Gravatar I have read your detailed article and I fail to see what the problem really is.

You state that adware is being 'bundled' with media files (movies, music...) downloaded through bittorrent.

Now, the only way to 'bundle' a program with a media file is to either put everything in a big EXE file; or to put the media files and the EXE file into the same archive.

In both cases the user is willingly launching a random EXE file downloaded from something less than a reputable site.

I wouldn't call that "installing without user consent"!

Everybody knows that you don't run random EXE files. And if they don't, they should probably get a more user-friendly computer that doesn't let them do stuff they don't understand.

The point of whether or not any sort of EULA is being displayed in the process seems quite moot to me.

Gravatar Just as well you don't work in any kind of security then. Why do people continue to regurgitate the same old bullshit? The whole point of almost every single adware installation is that PEOPLE WILL CLICK YES TO THINGS. Its rather retarded to complain about people writing about adware and spyware issues on an ANTISPYWARE AND ADWARE WEBSITE.

"In both cases the user is willingly launching a random EXE file downloaded from something less than a reputable site."

Newsflash, the files dont come from "sites" that may be reputable or otherwise. They come from any of the BT sites where a Torrent or seed has been placed.

"Everybody knows that you don't run random EXE files. And if they don't, they should probably get a more user-friendly computer that doesn't let them do stuff they don't understand."

yes, because PCs come with things like that disabled by default. LOL.

"The point of whether or not any sort of EULA is being displayed in the process seems quite moot to me."

I say again - thank christ you dont have anything to do with the antispyware industry. You clearly don't know enough about it to understand how it works in the first place.

Gravatar Bottom line: these software nasties shouldn't be allowed to exist, nevermind how it spreads or whether they were informed or whether they clicked "yes" or how dumb the user "has to be" to get infected or how much they "deserve" to be infected. This type of scumware is crap and the idiots who wrote them deserve some very unwanted and hostile attention!

Gravatar maybe we can have a petition to sue
this effin company.
its like, youre not even informed
that such thing has been installed
on ur pc, and when u uninstall their
program the adware thing should be uninstalled too! look at their website, they are so full of Sh%#^%
nothing is even mentioned about questions regarding their stupid
program w/c is so damn hard to remove!!!
