A Revolution is the Solution

Gravatar But I thought you were *a part* of the Microsoft conspiracy, what with your previous article about how BitTorrent is evil, puts spyware on our computers, and kills kittens.

Gravatar Good post, thanks for linking to my post.

Gravatar I read often, post never, at least not on the Anti-spyware blogs. However, this deserves some comment.

How...why...who...

Okay, those were the first impressions of this story. After the initial shock, here are my thoughts.

How can MS consider this to be a positive move? Even the discussion of this will create a PR nightmare.

For years, people have been after MS to close gaps in their software. To become more secure and try to create an operating system that wasn't easily attacked. IMO, they've been moving towards that.

Earlier this year, with the purchase of GIANT, they took a huge leap forward. A move, like purchasing Claria, undoes all of that. They lose the appearance of being secure (deserved or not) by those that understand how bad Claria is and how poor their practices have been.

With the looming threats of the MAC/Intel joining bringing the MAC OS more mainstream, why make such a move NOW?! Perhaps I'm missing something...

But I have to agree with Paperghost on this. Given that MS' head of PR is headed to 180Solutions...well, this could turn out to be a very bad month for MS in the eyes of the security community.

I suppose we should all get ready to read more articles like this

Gravatar So MS plans to hook up with an adware
company,

why is this a surprise to anyone
the net is a source of income,
and bill Gates never has refused more income.

this will need to be watched i agree
but how exactly would anyone be able to stop it ???

at the end of the day i see an entire
Web funded totally by Adds, to get online you will have to sit and watch

15 mins of adds per hour..

Gravatar Martey - no, I just framed Cohen with the whole "commit digital piracy" thing. The kittens were mostly unharmed.

As for this story - i really, really hope its some kind of stupid joke that never gets told again. Either that, or a purposeful leak by someone so outraged that they thought they'd blow the whole deal right out the water.

Gravatar PaperGhost: Don't we all!

Gravatar I just got the whole kitten thing. LOL The kittens were mostly unharmed."; that was very funny LOL.

Gravatar Not for those poor kitties it wasn't! Poor old Mr Wuzzles will never be the same again

Gravatar Hopefully, this is just a load of BS from someone who doesn't like Microsoft.
If it isn't, I'd like to grab Bill Gates by the head, shake him and scream in his face "What the F*** are you THINKING!!!!!!!"
This has to be the WORST idea that Microsoft has ever had, unless they are buying this copy in order to shut down one of the worse purveyors of spyware and adware on the net.
That is a possibility. It could be that Microsoft has gotten tired of waiting for the US govt. to do it's job and make ALL adware illegal.
That's basically what they should do, just make it all illegal whether it is on an opt-in or opt-out basis and have done with it. That way, the Feds could just march up to a adware distributor, say "Did you make this software?" "Yes." "Lock him up."
There is no room in the world anymore for virus spreaders, adware and spyware distributors, and other jerks like them on the internet.
