A Revolution is the Solution
|

Wow, that's a scary log file. And it's so nice to see that 180solutions is still doing horrible, unethical things. For about two-thirds of a second, I regretted my recommendation that ParetoLogic continue quarantining their software after so many polite e-mails, but now I feel vindicated.
And good sleuthing. This whole IM adware business makes me want to throw rocks at God.

I ran "dontfuckit.com" under even admin and nothing happened. I ran the wrong file?

Ah - let me explain. the "dontfuckit.com" file is the one that doesn't work properly. I'll update the article to make this clearer.
(see, this is what happens with a lack of sleep!)

oh and Sacha - "This whole IM adware business makes me want to throw rocks at God." Best line ever. Expect to see that as the lead in for one of the next pieces on this (with notable quotable credits, of course)

Well I guess kinda depends on what you mean by hitting back. Ppl like PG tend to use bad PR. Most ppl similar to myself would spam phone them, though I personally don't do it. And hackers would deface their webpage like they did to MMG in June (which is wrong, Admin Bot, now that I know you read these! )
I personally agree with the PR approach. By choking off their revenue, we can make them die the kind of natural death that usually does not cost us any money.

One of the best ways to hit their wallet, encourage people like Spitzer. Continue to support those that can/are taking these firms to court.
Threats of physical violence, phone spam, E-Mail spam, etc... are pointless. They do not accomplish any goals and can actually harm the cause of removing this garbage from the web. How so? Well, it's pretty easy to distract people from the real problem by crying foul against those that take these extreme actions.
The ultimate end of that, is it delays any true change. Bad PR and encouraging further litigation against these companies is one of the best ways to attack them.

I remeber being involved in a campaign against barclays bank in the early 80's over their involvement in South Africa. One of the tactics used then may have some relevance here. If a company is publicly listed and has shares, why not buy 1, then attend the company AGM as a shareholder and raise hell.

Paperghost..
Do you know why Mediamotor is hosting the stub installer for 180solutions?
Or is that an old stub so as to bypass user notification??
http://bins.media-motor.net/
soft...staller4292.exe
(from the log on spywareguide)
180 Should come down hard and fast on these idiots and on mediamotor.
But they are probably too busy counting dollars.
Also im going to report this guy:
http://home.comcast.net/~jack.kissner/
To comcast and get it shutdown.
He could be the perp or just a stolen account.

Hello:
I ran into this obscenity today actually for the first time.
I'm a system administrator for a midwestern company and I received a call from a woman who could run NO software applications on her work computer.
Apparently a visiting employee from another office had used her PC when
she was out for the day and when she
returned the searchmiracle horrible
toolbar was on her machine and you
couldn't remove it at all.
To make matters worse, most productivity software would crash upon launch.
After remoting into her machine and
trying various things I got my in car
and drove 20 miles to visit the CPU
in person and take care of it once
and for all.
It took about another hour to
completely remove this thing but it
had me very angry to the point where
I was ready to drop the CPU off of a
bridge.
After doing some research I found
a thread at cexx.org that pointed to
your site and now I read that these
folks are pretty well organized and
definetely not interested in having
you removing their stuff from any PC
they are installed on.
This machine was literally UNUSABLE
and was inches from being reimaged.
Thank God for safe mode and tools
written by people who are aware of
this junk.
Anyway, keep up the good work and I'll
keep tuning in.
