A Revolution is the Solution

Sickening.
My prized keywords are "requiring user to run," and in the post "Agree to the install," and putting the exe under a deceptive name is another thing. Tis' not Microsoft's fault, logic suggests that if adware/spyware companies targeted other operating systems exclusively, they'd be bankrupt.

Amazon...but that's rcm.amazon.com.
Are we sure that's THE amazon.com? I'm asking because rcm.amazon.com is in my hosts file, redirected to myself...and I wouldn't do that unless it's an advertising server...

This is getting a little ridiculous now. These companies really need to be stomped out of business TOTALLY.
No spurious installs, no hidden installs, no adware installs PERIOD!
They should just make adware that has to be downloaded onto your computer illegal and have done with it at last, and arrest and put in jail anyone that make these programs.

That just look so familiar to me. My friends 12yr old twins are famous for d/l stuff like that, and the next thing it's one of them on the phone saying 'auntie caz, can you sort our computer', which at the moment is sitting happily in the corner of my livingroom, with a complete reinstall of xp to get it going again. I swear if there was a programme i could get to stop them d/l crap like adware, it would be on their system like a shot.

Try Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Caz. It has caught every single one of the malware and spyware programs that I have inadvertently downloaded during my explorations of the internet.

No EULA yet again these people really need to be got at in a big way ,
the problem seems to be that the main Adware companies keep playing the Victim card ,
BOO HOO its not us its a Rogue affiliate :-( ok who is the money going to ??
to Caz the only way to stop those 2 is to set the system so it cant D/L
at all lol

Any chance of encapsulating who and or
what is behind this insanity and why it
is allowed to continue?
I always thought it was less ethical
companies in the U.S. paying those in
foreign locales beyond U.S. law doing
it but I suspect you have a bigger
picture in mind of what is really
going on.
I read the big on greynets and that is
very interesting but it almost seems
as if there are the people who create
the software and those that subscribe
to their services (affiliates).
Correct?
Thanks for any clarification you can
come up with.

The investigation into who is behind this is continuing, although if you've seen any of the logs generated by these beasts you'll know that its a nightmare to decipher the clues. And the list is getting bigger and bigger.
Rest assured, if we can come up with who is doing this, they will be exposed. Though it may be a major letdown when it turns out to be (as it has been so many times) some random guy in his basement.

The .exe files are still there. Still no EULA. Still installing lots of unwanted software. I thought the files would have been gone by now.
