Shame the writers are so unconvincing.
I tells ya, if I had the coding skill, I 'd (hypothetically) write a better trojan with far more things considered - the social engineering aspect. For instance, you could have a simple bot which scans and adapts the behaviour to suit the user it is coming from - for instance, if "cute" "angel" or "princess" are in the email, then it switches to use txt speak. If "gangsta", "killa" or "thug" are in the email, it adapts to be some sort of idiot.
It could reason with the user - I remember one trojan did this by saying hi, waiting for a response, and then sending the link. Beats me as to why this hasn't been extended further to actually providing a false argument to why the link should be clicked, asking how the user is, and starting impersonal (but apparently personal) conversation.
Although, maybe these virus writers have no friends, and thus don't understand these things
Humans are so interesting.

I think we need to find the source of the problem. Constantly trying to prevent attack isnt right, you need to go after the source. Like the NYC Subway. You will never stop a backpack bomber in there, its just way too big to protect. So you dont spend all your energy preventing the attack, you spend it on getting to the attacker.

But without IM networks monitoring their messages (in theory, if this was done, the IM networks could trace the first instant of a link being sent, get the IP of the account and then the ISP account of the releaser), it is impossible.
And I can tell ya, it'd be a massive infringement of rights.
Unless they merely kept objective logs.

I don't get it... I never click on links that are sent to me by people I don't know. Why would anyone?
