Interesting read and a nice analysis of the situation. Spam Blogs (Splogs) are certainly becoming more malicious. Just last month, Google had a huge problem with them - I believe a spammer got over 4 billion results in to Google's index.
However, this is the first time I've seen this combined with malware/spyware - something certainly needs to be done about it, and at both ends of the problem. Search engines need to work better to eliminate this garbage, and browsers (not everyone uses Firefox) need to come with built in anti-spyware.
