Kurt, I haven't read into this a great deal but I do think to understand the black-hats it is handy to know how they do what they do.
I suppose it is a case of know your enemy.
As long as the students get taught ethics along with their skills it shouldn't be an issue.

Those students will be taught ethics Which they will promptly Ignore its a bit like teaching martial arts a lot of guys in the 1970's Taught but the students Ignored the ethics side of it So what did they do ? Go out and beat people up thats what they did

understanding how malware works and how to make it are two very different things even though some folks like to frame them as being the same... i have no problem with a curriculum that teaches students how malware works (indeed, there are other cs programs elsewhere that do) but one that teaches students to actually make the malware is hard enough to swallow that multiple av companies have vowed never to hire aycock's students....

you're absolutely right they'll ignore it... by the time they're in university it's a little late to be learning the core values that would keep them from doing harm - they either have those values already or they don't...
