Great we have another Lieberman wanna be, why can't these politicians stick to their chosen profession of politics. On the other hand most of the so called politicians FAIL miserabley at being a politician so they need to do other things to make them selves look good, and fortunately for everyone most of those attempts result in a FAILURE of EPIC proportion.

Also how can this game be a bad thing that encourages people to do bad things, but Arnold Scwarzawhatsit can "act" in hundreds of action packed, gun toting movies and can still become the Govenor of California.
Also I watched a cracking film called Football Factory the other day and DVD player got stuck and played the opening seen, which was some guy getting his head hoofed in, over and over again. However I did not feel a sudden urge to go to a football match and shoe someone to death, nor would I let my child watch it as it has an 18 certificate.

I'm also glad someone else chimed in with something I'd forgotten about - the fact that the game has its own "moral system" with regards gunning down innocents. Anybody that's played GTA for more than ten seconds knows that if you go on a random killing spree, you've effectively wrecked your game because before long you'll have the entire police force pumping you with shotgun shells while SWAT vans reverse over your head.
You're *punished* for random acts of cruelty. Pity Hitchens didn't bother to venture into a game store before launching into his anti-game ramble...

And thats exactly the kind of "absolve everyone of blame because they just cant help themselves" school of thought that ultimately removes opportunities for fresh and different experiences because our society happens to have a core group of lunatics who will flip out and kill you at the slightest whim because they are INSANE, not because they thought robert de niro shooting pimps was "cool" or shooting cops in a game was "cool".

Id have thought peter hitchens is the one eating away at it, considering hes the one that wants to prevent the majority of normal, not insane people from playing a videogame thats clearly labeled for grown ups. unless thats who you meant, of course. i cant actually work out from looking at your post.
