A Revolution is the Solution

Gravatar Use the Egyptian method on them: "We're taking away your straw, but you must maintain the brick tallies." That is, take away their computers but make them get the same work done. *Exactly* the same work. (Obviously I'm not an IT guy in a company, or I'd not be so harsh.)

Gravatar No real shock there.
Our IT guys have locked down the standard PC users with no option for installing software. Problem here is that if I need to install something on their machines I have to mess around with "Run as" to get viewing software onto the clients.

Gravatar What amazes me is how many large companies have these huge AUP policies, but no real clue about implementing them. Once place I worked at was a major, globe spanning company with thousands and thousands of employees and oh God, what a shambles. You could pretty much install anything you wanted to.

Gravatar I'm also not surprised about that. A policy is worht nothing without a nice Toolset to enforce it. I'm glad there are some Great Tools, starting with the ones Windows brings along, plus nice little things like Central Managed Desktop Firewalls...
So my users are allowed to do anything that's possible to them...

Gravatar No wonder the Hackers and Adware boys are laughing, people are just
Perverse Arn't they you get a guy who works Say in a Major Bank but he wants to talk to his Girlfriend in working hours so he downloads an IM
against company policy and all hell breaks loose, the IT guy gets the blame and heads roll what a wonderful world ...

Gravatar Reminded me of a situation on Monday morning.

One of the teachers at the school where I am an IT Technician walked in for some advice, and to cut a long story short, she had forwarded an email she got at home that she thought was a virus, to see whether we would pick up on the virus to prove it was realy bad before she opened it. "Your security is better than mine..." was her justification.

The icing on the cake was said teacher was amazed when we become touchy about her having knowingly emailed a virus to her school account from home! She couldn't see the possible implications of if she had opened it and it did contain a virus...

These things are sent to test us I suppose!

Gravatar Lmao Rick that so typical of what i was talking about, her reaction to a possible threat was not to Scan it and check it herself but hand it to someone else to deal with, this happens to often, and im not talking just about people who are not Computer wise but So called experts as well abragation of responsibility,
Seems to be rife ..
