I think this cartoon sums up my views on the political side of the issue. I actually do believe that you have to look at the political aspect of left/right with an issue of this magnitude. Anyway, onto the cartoon:

Why does something so basic as ensuring another person is treated humanely have to be a partisan issue?
I'd like to see what these ultra-cons would do if the shoe were on the other foot and our soldiers were being treated this way.

A "person" = a prisoner, not a terrorist. I agree that we should not torture "prisoners", but as far as terrorists, I could care less. And Beth, our soldiers have/would be treated this way. If they behead civilians, what do you think they have done/will do to us?

Nick, the whole point is that we are better than them. If we sink to their tactics, we lose something of ourselves that we can't afford to lose. Plus, most Abu Ghraib detainees were not terrorists. They were innocent (see Andrew Sullivan's blog).
