Toad the Wet Sprocket - Apparently that came from a Monty Python sketch, though I have no idea which one. Doesn't excuse it tho, does it?
Did you miss "System of a Down"? The only good thing about that name is that it screams out, "WARNING: PRETENTIOUS TWATS WITH AMPLIFIERS AHEAD!"

There's no excuse for Toad. Monty Python or not. You wouldn't name your band F'tang F'tang Ole Biscuit Barrel either.
I almost put System of a Down in the so-bad-it's-good category. I don't see the name as pretentious, by the way. I see it as perfectly targeted for their core audience: 13-year-old boys.
Plus, they have amplifiers AND beards.

Toad the Wet Sprocket is the name of a band mentioned in the "Rock Notes" sketch. The idea was to come up with a name too ridiculous to actually ever be used. So much for that.
Rex Stardust, lead electric triangle with Toad the Wet Sprocket has had to have an elbow removed following their recent successful worldwide tour of Finland.

No 13 year old boys I knew, lol... but I wasn't smoking on the corner either. I agreed with you for a reasonable portion of it, at least in the cool name department, until you gave an honorable mention to the New Kids on the Block, at which time I just wrote you off completely.

"Black Sabbath" is about the coolest band name. Dark images come to mind when hearing it, and it just sounds cool when you say it.
As far as misspelling what about "Led Zeppelin"?

Dude, don't you realize Four Jacks and a Jill *was* a real group? No, really. They were a South African group that had a 1968 U.S. hit called "Master Jack."

Wow, if this wasn't entirely objective criteria and categorization, I might have wasted more of my time reading than commenting
