hm. comment eaten. if both eventually show up, forgive the repetition.
i understand the dynasty concern, but i wonder how many years we'll have to wait for another strong chance at a woman president. hillary has more than what it takes, as do all of the potential democratic '08 nominees. she's my favorite, but i'd support anyone who gives us back the bill of rights and makes rich people and corporations pay the same taxes as the middle class.

Just don't forget, she is rich people! I hear what you're saying, but it's sad that the only viable female candidate is the former president's wife. Is blood thicker than water in American politics?

yes, unfortunately. name recognition works. look at aaahhhnold.
bill and hillary clinton and john edwards and any number of other dems are the great american pulled-themselves-up-from-the-working-class story.
they know how it worked -- they were given chances, and like fdr before them, they want to give those chances to the next generations.
i think it's important for the left to stand behind our candidates. there's plenty to criticize on the other side, if we're in the mood for that.

“Now, don't get me wrong. I'd like to see a female president as much as the next guy.”
You give all these reasons why you aren’t going to consider her here. Some are some REAL “cookie” reasons and others are more serious. And you are principled enough not to be hindered by gender. You have a problem with her last name. I honestly see your point, but a “name” reason makes as much sense as a cookie “cookie” reason. Would you vote for a lesser President because someone in another county might assume something?
I noticed you are mindful of others assumptions. You didn’t want anyone getting the wrong idea about you. I am guessing that is the reason you have this line supporting a female President. I know you said her being a women was not an issue, but you could have been implying something.

Maxwell, The primary reason for saying I don't care about gender twice is that this is, for Hillary supporters, likely to be what they assume opposition to Hillary is based on. I am in favor of the idea of a female president (and a black president and a Jewish president...), but that doesn't mean we should vote for the next woman who comes along just because she's a woman.
I believe that Hillary's resume is paper thin otherwise. And yes, I do care about what the rest of the world thinks because a lot of other countries look to America as an example for their own democratic governments (or at least their dreams of such) and that's something we don't want to lose—for us or for them.
