Gravatar At this point I'm shouting at the screen, "What's with the decimal point? Just in case he scores 20.1 points tonight? What a bunch of dumbasses."

It suddenly strikes me that anybody reading the above might conclude that I am the most anal person EVAR. Oh well ... I guess being an editor makes you weird about this sort of thing.

Gravatar Not to mention, I had to go pretty far into a technorati search to find a single site that had her information on it's front page and only found one other site where somebody pasted some links in the comments. So, you know, one of the widest read circle-jerks in the blogosphere vs. fairly obscure website and comments. Not to mention the horseshit sedition nonsense.

I found the mendacity from this wanker to be far worse than Goldstein's.

There are many (on both the Left and the Right) who will no longer engage in the blogosphere. Who can blame them? Who can blame them for recoiling from the feverish lunacy of the virtual mob? From the rancor over Erick Erickson’s unwillingness to flatter Cindy Sheehan, to the bitter outrage over The Washington Post hiring a conservative blogger, to the mad marching unreason over Michelle Malkin’s impudence in posting some already-public information, the Left is consuming the blogosphere with hate, blackening its reputation, obliterating its credibility.

Gravatar ... to the bitter outrage over The Washington Post hiring a conservative blogger ...

Wow. Coming from a Red State blogger, that takes some real chutzpah.

Gravatar Oh, and reading the comments on that Red State thread, Carp - are they not the biggest little bigmen martinets ever? What with their constant threats of banning and pedantic upbraiding of anyone who dares disagree with their view?

I love the self-importance oozing out of this line from 'Moe Lane':

Also. do not put on airs here, particularly when you are asked to clarify your position by a Contributor.

Oooh! A Contributor! A person with a fancy capped-up title, no less! Better answer the Contributor's doubts about your position lickity-split, maggot!

Gravatar Regarding how this all started, Michelle Malkin went to a cached page, took a screenshot, and posted the image on her site because didn't like the politics of the people. It's not her place to justify the disclosing of this information because she deemed that they were terrorizing people. That's an issue for the Santa Cruz police department to deal with, not her own brand of vigilante justice.

As for her own personal details - Malkin included that on her own e-mail list and that's how it went public. She launched her personal information about herself BY herself.

And the anti-racist One People's Project website promptly released her new details.

Someone took it a step further and used live.windows.com and yahoo maps to do a Graphic.

Payback's a bitch eh' Malkin?

Her refusal to remove these kids contact information was not from conviction, but from revenue. Every journalist in the world knows that contact information on a press release is for journalists to call for more information or interviews, not to be published (or even pointed out) in the publication itself. If she were any kind of ethical person she would have pulled the information when asked.

If she were something resembling a human being with "feelings", she would not have republished the information once the students themselves removed it. Michelle is a vicious, vindictive, venomous egoist with no discernible ethics nor even a shred of human decency. If she wants to be The Minority Woman Who Believes Minorities and Women Suck, that's her right. But she should at least have the integrity to acknowledge that she has done wrong and to stop compounding the wrong. And she should not give us that disingenuous crap about how she doesn't condone death threats and nobody should misuse her posting and reposting of personal information.

Gravatar Okay, killthebitch, I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I see no reason for you to link to a map to her house, complete with satellite imagery. I might be editing that comment, just a warning.

Gravatar JG posted the map to her house. But it didn't have any town info on it.

Yikes.

That being said, I would have gone insane seing the 20.0- nothing could be mroe annoying except "point differential"- it's a difference a-holes, not a differential.

Also, on the Malhotra thing, her entire existence is as an attention seaker and a martyr so posting her pic I thought was OK. That being said someone had posted a webpage, claiming to be her webpage, that had her class schedule on it. My guess is that she did NOT post it and I mentioned that around. That would have been out of bounds. I felt some qualms about posting her picture, but my guess is that the criculation of the Georgia Tech college republicans page was about the same as 3B, so I felt we were equally public.

Malkin was probably just waiting for someone to create her some moral equivalency, but when you start it, I don't think you get to say poor me (and that doesn't excuse the asshattery of the cobags).

Gravatar PP - posting Malhotra's pic was fine - shit, it was splashed all across newspapers, wasn't it? I was referring to the class schedule thing ... I think even posting her email addy if anyone did would be pushing it.

Gravatar Well, Jesus' G. posts everyone's e-mail address. It is a fine line. I don't think it is always out of bounds to post e-mails- I think someof it depends on your audience. Malkin has guarateed death threat potential. Some of the other sites not so much.

Gravatar Yeah, there is a question of scope and likelihood of bad results. Some wingers are asking if Malkin had just posted a link to the press release, would that have been alright?

Well, yeah, duh. It's removing all the steps the potential death-threater has to take, plus feeding them the red meat to get them all fired up that is the issue here.

JG's thing with posting email addies ... hmm. I don't want to get all "moral relativity" here, but his community is so deeply enmeshed in the parody thing that it's doubtful very many of them ever physically threaten the targets.

Gravatar Maybe I'm slow on this (wouldn't be the first time), but it seems to me that intent is an important issue here.

When the White Pages publishes my home phone number, there's nothing wrong with that, even if someone misuses it. If an organization I volunteer for publishes my home phone number, that's okay too, even if it means I sometimes get a call from an angry constituent. But if Assparrot gets sick of my comments, writes a post called, "Kill Snag," and attaches my home phone number, that's clearly something else altogether.

If you hand a loaded machine gun to a drunk, you're going to be legally and morally responsible. Michelle giving the contact information of these students to her readers is pretty much the same thing.

Gravatar Snag, I agree with you up to the point in the analogy where Malkin is legally responsible for whatever her vigilante readers happen to do to the students whose info she listed. I don't think we want to go down that road too far, especially since Malkin didn't explicitly say, go harrass them, much less, go physically attack them.

What the Rottweiller did a while back (documented here by Dave Neiwert) was a totally overt plea for violence against an individual, accompanied by directions to that person's house.

Even that, though, unless one of his readers had actually carried out a crime against the targeted person, would probably be tough to prosecute.

Don't mean to be pedantic. But I think the key is how morally and ethically reprehensible it was for Malkin to post that info ... and then to post it again after she knew there were death threats being made - is just the work of a misanthrope.

Gravatar That is what I eman, with JG they clearly have an audience for snark and that is what you get, with Malkin the audience is race-baiting, insane rage-aholics, so even if she doesn't say anything explicit- especially AFTER seeing what was going on- I think this is where you can nail her like Digby.

Gravatar Yeah, plus JG has comments, where people can vent and if necessary, get talked down by others. Malkin's crowd just gets the "will nobody rid me of this meddlesome priest" pronouncement from their ice queen and are left to interpret it as they will.

Gravatar Perhaps not criminally liable under an incitement statute in Michelle's case, but potentially exposed to civil claims under a "knew or should have known" standard if someone was harmed as a result.

Either way, it was a fuckwad thing to do.

And I still want a Bas-O-Matic coffee cup.

Gravatar Bas tantalized us, then ripped his wares out from under our nose. And yeah, total fuckwad behavior on Malkin's part. She's probably worse than Coulter - who I suspect does her schtick for books it sells, whereas Malkin seems pretty ideologically sold on being a harridan.

Gravatar Harridan. There's a word we don't hear enough. Harlot's good, so is trollop. For the men, scalawag and reprobate.

Oddly enough, I didn't grow up expecting to spend my evenings thinking of old-fashioned words describing bad behavior. When fishing season opens, I'm out of here.

Gravatar Bas-O-Matic might have fished everything clean empty ... hence the name. I'm looking forward to salmon season ... which is closed to commercial fishing out in these parts this year.

Frankly, I think you should kill the link to the page with her personal information. Not that I think anyone here's enough of an asshole to act on it. Or too stupid to find it if they wanted to. But still. I hateses that crap.

Also, on the Malhotra thing, her entire existence is as an attention seaker and a martyr so posting her pic I thought was OK

She's not just an attention seeker, she's a troll. She says the most (usually)racist things imaginable, maybe even beyond imaginable. People react negatively towards that, some so negatively that they use ethnic or gender specific slurs. HA! Who's the real racist!

Thank you for falling for the bait, dipshit.

If you really want a mug

Gravatar Those mugs (and hoodies and shellsuits etc) will become like the upside-down biplane stamps ... valuable in their rarity. I advise everybody to snap them up while you can ... sit on them for 20 years and send your kids to college or buy that retirement home (or Winnebago or whatever) with the $big$big$big$ profitz from eBay you are sure to reap!!!!!!111!!!!123212@111111!elevenses!

Gravatar I'm guessing y'all regularly read Wollcott, but, if not, here he points out the Anchoress taking this hurling-oneself-with-force-onto-the-fainting- couch" schtick to another level.

And, no, I don't directly link to the insane. It just encourages 'em.

Gravatar Sycophantic. Cute. At least you didn't call me a Nazi which seems to be the typical clever response. The point of my post was that insults and name-calling do not win the war of ideas which is sadly what typically occurs in the political blogoshpere.

As a professional writer your post is well-written, thoughtful and well-researched. I think you make some good points. It could probably be just as effective without the "dumbass" comments however. But then again, you are targeting a particular audience and so am I. Hey, at least I got you to visit and link to my site. As you know, headlines and hyperbole grab attention.

Gravatar Scott, you've just won me over - not to your views (particularly on Malkin) - but to your decency and politeness. Now I feel all embarrassed about calling you "sycophantic" ... though, "awe inspiring" is still pretty over-the-top, dude.

Anyway, thanks for being a gentleman, and yes, round here we play to an audience ravenous for wit of the nastyish variety. It's a shame when the target winds up being a nice guy such as yourself ... but you seem to understand the way that sometimes works.

Gravatar I know not everyone is going to agree with me and I know I'm gonna take my lumps from time to time, but that's part of the fun I guess. I wish I could express myself half as well as you do, but maybe that will come the more I do this. I hope that wasn't too sycophantic. LOL.

Gravatar Goldstein's hilarious. Half his posts are overwrought melodrama over the latest librul perfidy, such as this incident, and the other half are full of condemnations of liberals for trying to "gin up outrage." I think he's used that phrase 7,483,912 times just this week.
