So far, to my knowledge, nothing even mildly intelligent has been written about this very sad event. The Kansis City Star tries to be respectful, sort of. Anybody who uses the word, "deconstructionism" or "deconstructionist" clearly has no interest in reading.

I take it back. Radio France has a bit (via Kotsko). And then there is this beautiful piece by Lars Iyer.

Thank you Ali. Here it is again.

I think they are preparing a special page with all the articles about Derrida they can find in the press - maybe in a few day :
http://www.mauriceblanchot.net

The French Site Maurice Blanchot weblog is also on the links, under "of note."

It seems I have won the Powells Daily Dose ($20 in credit for books) yet again, for the second day in a row (this time for recommending the Dylan Chronicles - last time for Gravity's Rainbow). Someone there must have clicked over to this site. I don't have the energy for much else at the moment, but let me say that Powells has infinite more integrity than Amazon and absolutely everyone should get their books there.

Have ordered Counterpath, on the recommendation of Spurious.

Greetings,

I too have observed that mysterious text that has so easily guided the mainstream press' obits. As I wrote to a friend:

"I feel the most pained when I see the sharp daggers the journalists are already drawing to sacrifice the pound of flesh they've been waiting for so long from this Algerian intellectual and Jew."

Say what you want about his work (for in the end, the fools always look like fools), but simply we are witnessing the death of a certain "French" generation that tried to do something a little different.

Long live Freak Power (to quote HST).

So who is next? Kristeva?

Time to make our own mark.

Via Adam Kotsko, here's something of real substanceMichael Bérubé on "Signature, Event, Context, and some on Chomsky, in the comments

There's an obituary/memoir at www.nplusonemag.com, worth seeing.

Yes, please do.

Also something (in French) in Libération.

The Libération piece is detailed and informative for those (like me) who aren't officionados, and for those who are, the unapolagetic admiration would surely be a breath of fresh air.

Unexpectedly, Mark Taylor writes a decent piece (via )
