McCain seemed really old and incoherent, but Obama let him get away with a lot (even though he interrupted and corrected him several times).

Also, I think Obama made the mistake Democrats always make. He should never, never say "John is absolutely correct" or anything like it. No one ever notices the qualifying statement that follows it. All people hear is "McCain is right".

agreed. although apparently this obscene deference–related somehow to this so-called "commander in chief threshold" (if not also to the threatening black man threshold)–is so obviously necessary and predictable that McCain's handlers were ready to air an ad using it as soon as they had enough footage, which apparently backfired for various reasons...and now Obama gets a bump because McCain's touted status as somebody no one really likes in the Senate and his slighting of David Letterman spells stunt disaster. Also his refusal to even acknowledge Obama's presence, or look at him even once, appears condescending. Imagine.

McCain's refusal to look at Obama was almost comical.... so stupid (one would think). Thanks for the links.

Here's an interesting take on it (for one, countering my interpretation of the "John's right" bits).

that's good..
