I wonder what the alternate history would look like if we had chosen to do nothing...maybe more attacks...I don't know.

I wonder what alternate history would look like if we had fought against those who actually attacked us.

sort of a question answering with another....ok... I was not soliciting a debate...but ok...I will try to answer yours. (again not looking for a debate of right or wrong...simply ideas that are forward thinking)
We are fighting against those who attacked us----
Afghanistan would be that location.
The news tells me that we are fighting insurgents (terrorists...Al-Quaeda) in Iraq.--- Again, we have brought the fight to our enemy.
I believe it is a good question to speculate as to what the alternate history would have looked like for our country had we not attacked Iraq.
Unrelated,my opinion is that we (USA) should pull out of Iraq and see the outcome as it relates to the war on terror. If the outcome is not an improvement...consider options then.

I did not see a question in either of the first two comments.
I think most people agree Afghanistan has received much less than our full focus and effort for four years. The news tells me that Afghanistan is a better breeding ground for terrorists since we diverted most of our resources to Iraq than when we were giving our full effort there.
We did not bring the fight to terrorists in Iraq. We brought the fight to Saddam, and in the process we created the atmosphere for terrorists to join the fight.
I agree that considering the alternate history had we not attacked Iraq is useful. Presumably, we would have kept our focus on Afghanistan in that scenario.
