Although I have never met Martin, I have admired his career and contributions to the community. Of course, having the same last name first drew my attention. I wish him well and hope his recovery is quick.

Patrick: I echo Beth's sentiments and wish the best for your uncle. Reading in recent years about his efforts to help others has been a source inspiration.

Echoing the best wishes in the comments, I'm also pretty incensed about the cowardly attack and lack of progress in assailant apprehension. Perhaps if lacrosse had been involved?
Sigh. I'm so sorry this happened at all and sorrier that it happened to your uncle.

Patrick,
I just heard the news and I'm blown away. I know all to well from personal experience how devistating such an attack can be.
I don't know Martin but I'm an admirer of what he has done. Besides, I know you and Martin's brother and think a lot of your family. I wish Martin the best.

Wow....I hope they catch whomever did it! Why on earth would someone do that? People suck sometimes.

I worked for Martin Eakes as a Loan Officer, bringing programs and products and a much needed service to those without a voice; I share the same values as he and his family does; I am shocked, and fed up with this kind of LAWLESSNESS going on in America, and particularly in Durham.
Martin, I will continue to pray for you and your family.

All of us at the OCC in Washington and all around the country pray for Martin. May the strength he has given us all to fight the good fight these many years be returned to him for his speedy recovery.

Patrick,
I was talking to some Durham cops last night and they were talking about the brutality of the attack. They also noted how DARK it is in downtown Durham and how other downtown areas (Raleigh, for example) are very well-lit. I hope that Martin is doing well. I know this has been an awful experience.
