An assortment of very manly comments

I did some recon myself. I may or may not have stumbled upon a pair of "intern" credentials which I will not be using. Let me know if anyone wants them.

Gravatar I wish I could, I'm on the wrong coast. But I found this old picture of myself from about 10 years ago (I'm on the right) at the nearby Hyatt in Crystal City.

I just want to lift a drink to all those who are participating in this weekend's recruitment drive.

Gravatar Good luck ladies and gentlemen on the recruitment drive!

Gravatar We thank you and place our faith in you, the General's soldiers. You are the Rockets of Righteousness in the face of the Refusenicks, brave fighters who place yourselves in abject danger in the muddy trenches of the Marriott. What courage you show, awaiting contempt, butt kicking and probable face-spitting from an enemy whose only hero is Karl Rove. Give em' hell!
God bless, and good luck.

Gravatar I've just alerted Army Times.

Here's their editorial in the current issue:

A Call for Commitment

The Army's growing recruiting crisis is more than a numbers crunch. It's a symptom of the failure of the nation's leaders to speak frankly and plainly to the American people, to level with them about the commitment it will take to win the war in Iraq and the global war on terrorism.

There is no mystery about why young people are increasingly disinclined to join the military, or why so many parents are opposed to letting their children sign up: It is clear now that the war in Iraq will drag on for years, and that the Iraqi troops who may someday be able to take over are still far from being able to handle the job alone.

The huge spike in deaths in May belies Vice President Cheney's claim that the insurgency is "in the last throes." And the reality of war belies the Army recruiting ads that don't mention war at all.

Though many people do contribute to the cause, for most Americans, this is somebody else's war. They feel no personal stake. Perhaps this is the price of an all-volunteer military -- if you're not in it, the war isn't your problem. But the fact is, there is little to unite the nation in this fight; there are no war bonds to buy or ration cards to remind us of shortages or recycling drives to generate raw materials for the war effort.

What the nation needs now is a direct national appeal from its leaders, calling for a spirit of national commitment and sacrifice -- a call to service. We need war bonds and a recruiting pitch that harkens back to the days of World War II, when Uncle Sam wanted you to kill the bad guys and serving one's nation was a call of duty, not a way to pay for college.

We need a full and frank expression of why this war is worth fighting and why it should be everyone's cause.

Without that sense of national purpose, the nation will be divided, the war will drag on, and those who do answer the nation's call will pay the price in frequent deployments, long separations, and their own precious blood. [End text]

[Note: Army Times is a private, independent newspaper which focuses on the U.S. Army.]

Thanks to all of you answering our nation's call.

Gravatar Ha ha ha, wow, this is superb! I can just picture it, all of those young George Wills lining up at the army recruitment office. Fabulous work, gentlemen.

Gravatar General Sir:

Just wanted to make sure that the operatives in the field saw this piece of intellegence:

"The group plans to rally on Capitol Hill after this weekend's election in a public show of support for the president's Social Security plan."

http:// seattletimes.nwsource.com...blicans24m.html

What better place to extend that public show of support to the war effort?

Col. Seth
Kentucky Milita (Ret)

Gravatar hmm...is spatula a frenchified word?

Gravatar They're not all children of privilige. The biography of Michael Davidson, one of the people on the fax list and a candidate for CRNC chairman has this in his biography:

He is currently running for Chairman of the College Republican National Committee and hopes to join the Marine Corps when his term is completed in 2007.

He also went to community college. You can check out his bio here. http://www.yourcrnc.org/biography/

Democrats, Republicans...hey we're all in this together.

Gravatar He is currently running for Chairman of the College Republican National Committee and hopes to join the Marine Corps when his term is completed in 2007.

what's stopping him now, when he's needed the most. By 2007, his old wrestling injury might start acting up, and he might not be able to avail himself of the wonderful opportunities being offered to him by the US Army Infantry!

Gravatar I'm losing it..just posted this on the Rove discussion.

Poor old Stinkeye is way glum about her busted up pelvis. My bedroom athleticism has gotten me in real big trouble before. It is this and only this injury that forbids me joining you all.

My last tangent on the OYE theme is that I will be here thinking of you as the Yellow Jackets.

"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!"

Humiliate, embarrass, and shame..."these are a few of my favorite things."

We armchair warriors salute you and eagerly await your dispatches from the front.

Gravatar Patriotboy said it well. Here's one I think is even better:

"In 1975, James Fallows wrote a famous essay for The Washington Monthly titled, "What Did You Do in the Class War, Daddy?" In it, he recounted taking a bus to the Boston Navy Yard with other Harvard students drafted to serve in Vietnam. Soon after, another bus pulled up, this one filled with draftees from the working-class town of Chelsea. The Harvard students brought medical records carefully manipulated to show they were unfit to serve - and roughly 80 percent returned to campus "as free individuals, liberated and victorious." The draftees from Chelsea, by contrast, "walked through the examination lines like so many cattle off to the slaughter." Fallows remembers the moment the military doctor wrote "unqualified" on his folder. "I was overcome by a wave of relief, which for the first time revealed to me how great my terror had been, and by the beginning of the sense of shame which remains with me to this day." (Peter Beinart column, New Republic 5/10/2004)

Fallows has the human decency of shame.

Gravatar Regroup! Steve Gilliard has an embedded reporter in situ taking pictures! Look at all those empty beer cans - what pigs! Quel garbage!

Gravatar OT: does anyone doubt there will be some horrendous attack in Iraq on Tuesday, timed to screw up Prince George's speech?

I fear a lot of lives will be lost.

Gravatar Here's some literature you can take with you. It's the MapQuest directions to the nearest U.S. Army Recruiting Station, a scant 3.67 miles away by car, or just a short block-and-a-half walk from the McPherson Square Metro Station, conveniently located on the same Blue Line as the Crystal City stop. You don't even have to switch trains. Serving our country has never been easier!

Gravatar FUCKING BRILLIANT!

Gravatar Since this is Gay Pride weekend. Wouldn't it be awesome to hand out fliers at a local DC leather bar about a big party over at the Marriot.

Gravatar "Hope to join the marine corps when his term is completed in 2007..."

Private no class: please inform young Michael, that the way things are going, it will all be over before he can fulfill his "hopes".

He mustn't let this opportunity for immortality and a good looking resume' gang a'gleyin', as they say in Scotland.

From a poster on Gilliard's, remember Gen'l Custer:

"Benteen! Come quick! Big village!"

Gravatar WTF

You think it is about time for a "Tet Offensive"?

I been thinking the same thing.

fubar first class

Gravatar In case anyone needs OYE stickers in a hurry, and can't wait for the Gitmo-loving Cafe' Press (nothing against Our General's shop there, of course, a brutha's got to pay the bills to keep this site up & running!) --- MEAD makes "Magnetic Signs" (11" X 14"), 3 to a pack, that you can get at Wally World for about $3.20, and after you trim them down for the printer, they will make 36 magnets, ready to cut & stick on every BMW and Hummer in sight.

And yes, I'm putting together care packages for Recruiter Boy and Blonde Niece, for each to share with their co-workers in the Navy and Army National Guard. Fliers coming up!
