I read a great article about the Gaza settlement by some Rand foundation fellows in my local paper. The argument was simple: no handouts for anyone, and if the Palestinians suffer some genocide, then them's the breaks, and we can all shake hands over the inherent and terrible fairness of the system. If they had been a little smarter (i.e., wealthier from the beginning), then they could have helped themselves. No crying over spilt ethnic hatred, I suppose. And then in fine Randian tradition, everyone would have celebrated with a healthy, male-fantasy screw behind the dumpster or something.

But they didn't say anything about the U.S. financing the whole Isreali thing, which kind of seemed like a handout to me. But hey, I'm not the one with a professorial neck beard.

I've admired your most pertinent letters to our religious and political leaders for about the past 3 months. However, I had never ventured to the comments sections prior to yesterday.

What a grand staff you've assembled about you. How eloquently they speak the truth. I feel completely at home.

I wish to enlist. I'm truly not Officer material as I despise the taste of wine and adore a good beer, am offended by righteous women and enjoy a good whoring, can't stand Chaplains and prefer shooting craps on Sunday morning to attending religious Services. So you see, I just wouldn't fit in the Wardroom or Officer's mess.

My resume includes 5 years of enlisted service in the US Navy where I set a near record for achieiving rate by attaining the rate of E5 once, E4 twice and was honorably discharged as an E3. A eager and honest shipmate of John Barleycorn I spent most of time ashore in his company.

I'm eager to enlist and once again fight the enemies of our country under your direction. I suggest I take on the rate of Chief Bosun's Mate and serve as your liason to the enlisted ranks. (After I take them out to a couple of bars I know and introduce them to some of my female friends they will fight to their death for you).

All quiet on the western front from 0100 hrs., the last incoming stink-bomb being from Spammy-Pammy (and a punk one it was, no collateral damage observed) -- until 0-1400 or so, when a startled wanderer who assumed the pseudonym of a former Frenchy First Lady stumbled into camp. She was listing badly to the right as she limped off. Whereabouts of both intruders now unknown, but advise all to keep alert. One never knows when chickenhawks may reappear to drop another load, although it seems they usually come out at night.
