An assortment of very manly comments

Gravatar I don't think you have to wait three days between votes. I swear it only took one or two days for me to re-vote. Anyway, the first round ends on Jan. 19, so get out and vote like there's Diebold.

Gravatar should say:

...like there's no Diebold.

Hysterical, isn't it?

Gravatar Thanks mon Generale. The enemy is at the gate about to overrun my comments thread: my how those JIBA righties hate to be uncovered for who they really are.

Anyway, I've come up w. some new dirt on JIBA at the blog post linked to this comment. Notably, that a nominated blog will be excluded whose "raison d'etre" is to criticize Israel (whatever the hell that means). And that Aussie Dave has power to determine which nominations are kosher and which treif. Sound like a transparent process to you?

And should anyone care to lv. a comment on either post I'd be grateful. It's tough when you're the only person supporting yr point of view among a snarling group of detractors.

Gravatar Snarl, snarl, snarl.

Sorry if I disagree with you Richard, especially when, IMHO, you are wrong, mais ceci est la nature de l'internet. Si vous avez une section pour les commentaires, les gens vont exprimer leurs opinions. Arrete de pleurer comme un petit bébé quand ils sont pas d'accords avec toi. So not manly!

Gravatar CK, I had thought better of you and Jewelicious - didn't agree with everything on your site, but was willing to search further and learn. You are showing your true colors. Do not underestimate the General's troops - there are people who speak more than one language, and who understand true snark when they see it. You've just lost one reader, bub.

Gravatar It's pretty pathetic that you would unreservedly accept the deluded accusations of a bitter, senile old man, who failed to realize that had he merely nominated his own blog (instead of waiting for his imaginary friends to nominate him), he would have been included.

Take you back to high school, Richie?

Gravatar General, Sir
How to win Friends and influence people was a great broadway hit, but it seems that the lessons have been forgotten, n'est-ce pas.

Gravatar WhattheH! By using French, I wasn't trying to mask my snarkiness. I was perhaps just trying to lessen the blow by employing the soft soothing tongue of Moliere.

Look, by any reasonable measure we at Jewlicious are quite liberal. Look at any of the standard measures of liberalism in the US that we support:

Socialized Health Care? Check!
Gay Rights? Check!
Freedom to choose? Check!
Separation of Church and State? Check!
Hate Pat Robertson? Check!

I could go on and on. Richard however, chose to mischaracterize us as a right wing blog and paint us with the same ideological brush he applied to other blogs who accused us of being leftist. So here I am getting it from both sides because I choose to be critical rather than doctrinaire.

So I don't get mad. I get snarky. In French no less. Forgive me WhattheH. I was weak, I am only human after all, we all have our weaknesses. I'll try to be polite la prochaine foi.

Gravatar "Tikun Olam has more on how the Jewish and Israeli Blog Awards became the Jewish, Israeli, and Eliminationist Blog Awards."

General, Sir!

Sweeping generalizations are for generally B$W vision of Richard Silverstein and, indeed, some of the blogs represented in JIB Awards.

However, anyone who would care to look at the diverse blogs in the JIB list, will fairly quickly understand that there is more to this list than "eliminationists".

Speaking about B&W vision, your ads area on the right side of your page includes a fellow that bears closer scrutiny. I mean the fat jewsih guy.

Take a good close look at:
http://fatoldjewishguywholivesin...uke-and- me.html

and

http://fatoldjewishguywholivesin...-friend- of.html

and especially at:

http://fatoldjewishguywholivesin...t- agnostic.html

There is much more of that stuff, but the general impression is not B&W - it is more of the brown category, if you know what I mean...

Cheers, General.

Gravatar ck,
Thanks for the yahrzeit candle offer! It was a kind gesture.
I never could get right with the Trinity. The GodHead. I always figured if you've got the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, what's to keep the Sister, the Brother, the Uncle and His Wife from being part of it.
Religion is one thing I have a difficult time arguing, because I spend most of my time judging others, so it seems absurd in a religious context.
I'll keep visiting your website.

Gravatar Have we all seen the stirring, righteous line-up for the main game in the second round?

Gravatar Jackie_O: You're welcome and I hope you take me up on the offer. It's safe - live in Jerusalem so stalking options are highly limited. As for the Holy Ghost - I think it goes without saying that I have issues with that despite the fact that I am moments away from the site of the son's crucifixion. Arguing about religion is about as much fun as masturbating with a Brillo pad.

OK, I don't know where I was going with that.

Gravatar ck,
I'll write you.
Richard,
If you're still out there, I meant to bring up an individual who wrote in your blog of the old Chicago liberals on the Lakefront. It warmed my heart. He was thinking of Hyde Park, of course, which is an hour away from my home.
They're still there, but the neighborhood has become very multicultural. Synagogues, Mosques, and Churches co-exist peacefully.
The whole idea of "what have you done for me lately" doesn't rest on hate and retribution.
I wish I could tell your readers what the far right says behind their back. I'm surrounded by them in my little red state. Much like Country Clubs that kept Jews out of the gentiles midst a generation ago, the very same folks can now embrace certain Jews for their hatred of Arabs and espouse their support of Israel, while they still make the same sick jokes about anyone who isn't Christian and "white."
People who do that sort of thing are two-faced, and I can't understand why anyone would sell out to that sort of thinking.
That's my 2 cents worth.
Keep doing what you're doing.

Gravatar You see mon generale, they're attacking even here within your gates. What happened to your defensive perimeter?

All I can say is you can see by the snarkiness (CK) & downright mania (Aussie Dave) that I've really gotten their goat. By the way, if Aussie Dave thinks I'm a senile old man, just take a look at his Aussie kefiyyeh which he dons in his beautiful portrait in the PJM profiles. One could wonder what Aussie mania induced him to wear such gorgeous haberdashery. But I won't. Wouldn't be right would it to take advantage of the deeply foolish?

A few defensive parries againt the screaming hordes:

CK says I attacked his blog calling it right wing. Don't know what he's dreaming about (Moliere perhaps). I attacked his statements in my comments section. I attacked some of the other PJM type right wing blogs involved in JIBA, but not his. I've visited his blog a handful of times (in the distant past--no more though) and wouldn't care to comment on it one way or another (esp. now).

CK says he's a 'liberal' yet he's written me saying he's in reluctant support of the Separation Barrier, in full support of extrajudicial assassinations, in favor of ending the Occupation "as soon as its feasible" (whatever that means). Some of his views are progressive, but it's pretty spotty. So don't be fooled by the snarky sounds of Moliere. He's a snark in any language.

Jackie_O: Thanks for visiting & glad you noted that interestsing comment. Come back soon now, hear!

Gravatar Mr. Siverstein! I never said I was in full support of extrajudicial assassinations. All I stated was that your term is a misnomer. And it is - extrajudicial means "Outside of the authority of a court" or "Outside of the usual judicial proceedings." In the case of a war or a conflict, combatants do not benefit from judicial review. If you are a combatant intent on causing harm to enemy combatants or civilians, you are a legitimate target. I disagree with your terminology. Of course I am vehemently opposed to extrajudicial assassination. I just don't think that's what's going on when Israel targets a terrorist.

Let me also note that the name calling so far has come exclusively from your direction. I would think that a man with your oft cited stellar academic credentials could do better than resorting to name calling and sycophantic entreaties, it's so ... undignified. Vous n'ettes pas du tout sympa! But yeah, whatever - maybe that is in fact all you are capable of. Go on distorting reality around you so that it continues to fit into your myopic little world view.

Quelle héro mon Général! Je pense qu'on doit lui donner une medaille - Richard Silverstein! Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur! Bravo! Hourrah!

Gravatar What CK has stated, that he is in favor of Israeli extrajudicial assassinations (though he can't bring himself to call them that) violates international law. In fact, there are court cases pending before the Israel Supreme Court (which is desperately trying to duck the issue) & there is an international warrant for the arrest of an Israeli general who planned such a murder which also killed 18 innocent Palestinians & levelled a 4 story apartment building (with a 2,000 ton bomb).

Would I have liked to put this alleged terrorist out of commission? Sure. Would I want him captured & tried by a court of justice? You bet. Would I want the alleged terrorist, his wife, children & neighbors killed too? NO WAY.

In my book, this is not a position a "liberal" believes. But CK is entitled to call himself whatever he wishes. That doesn't mean I need to agree with him.

Gravatar Jackie_O - I actually live in Evanston and my schul is Emanuel Congregation in Edgewater - not the one in Hyde Park.

However - your comment is just as valid about Edgewater and Evanston as well...

I hope the experience in the melting pots of the American urban areas can someday be a part of "Globalization"

I recall seeing Serbs, Croats, and Bosnians emigrating to Chicago during such a bitter conflict set up shops in the same neighborhoods and living peacfully and even supporting each others businesses...

Gravatar Mr. Silverstein,
Liberalism is NOT a monolith. There are people on the left end of the ideological spectrum that disagree with each other vehemently and yet both can still be considered liberal. Interntional warrants and court cases do not equal guilt, unless by your definition of Liberalism, an accused does not ever benefit from a presumption of innocence. Well actually, that's not Liberal at all. Given that, it is my perogative to take umbrage with your definitions. You say that Israel is guilty of extrajudicial assassination. By that definition, had I tried to kill Hitler or Goebels or Mengele during WWII, I too would be committing extrajudicial assasination. Well, guilty as charged then.

Keep ducking the issue. Keep telling me how targetting a terrorist who is actively plotting acts of terrorism is a war crime. Oh and by the way, read the 4th Geneva Convention. Terrorism is also defined as a war crime.

Being a Liberal does not mean that I have to be a pacifist and not defend myself. Being a Liberal does not mean that I have to be an ideological carbon copy of Richard Silverstein.
