Yeah I guess I'm not entirely fair to the children - I don't know them personally, maybe they did try. It's just so painful to watch this, and to see echoes of it in my life, although certainly nothing as bad as that!

So much to say on this, but simply been there done that, will not do that again, will suffice for now....
As for why the adult children do not intervene. Sometmes they do. But mostly, they have been well-trained from early on not to interfere or else!
I am so gald that you and your friends DO speak out against this and take a stand against "Edith's husband". I am sure it helps to a degree.
And getting older only means getting wiser if you actually try to learn something. So many just keep doing the same thing over and over again and never learn, sorry to say.
