Here you go mouldy:

big seats and free chocolate chip cookies they bake on the plane. mmmm. if you don't mind the layover in Milwaukee on a coast-to-coast.

Gravatar It's all about Midwest Air.... they are very nice to fly with, but extremely expensive (I'm also a fan of Southwest, and I know I am in the minority, but their safety record is wonderful).
btw, I used to love to fly.... it was so exciting. Anymore, I will do anything to avoid it. I hate the hassle, being treated like a terrorist (because as a white female, I am SO going to blow something up), and all of the other crap that goes along with flying nowdays. I personally date the flying sucking from 9/11. Since then, it has just become a crap. Besides, what's the fun of meeting someone at the airport when you can't meet them at the gate? That used to be so much fun to get off of the airplane and see families and friends there to greet people (even if you weren't one of the lucky ones). Airports used to be a place where humanity gathered and where one could witness the spectrum of human emotions within the space of an airport gate. Not so much anymore. Meeting at the baggage claim is just not the same.

Gravatar I totally agree; flying is just dreadful these days. Try flying with a small child; that's even better. At least he points out when people cut in line or don't follow the rules and then the rude people get embarrassed. I hope you had a good trip home for Thanksgiving though, even if the travel itself was unpleasant.

Gravatar theblastedsamoflange: I'll have to check out Mid-West Airlines, though I don't remember seeing them out of BWI. I will say that my recent Air Canada flights were ok.

Alexa: I don't disagree regarding security, however, it is sad when that was the most plesant part of my trip. That said, I think travel starting heading downhill pre-9/11, sure the security doesn't help, but it has improved greatly over the last 4 years, and the alternatives aren't nearly as attractive.

Jill: Thanks, it was nice to be back in CA even if just for a little while. Here's to hoping for teleportation technology soon.

Gravatar Since when did airlines stop feeding passengers? Even more shocking; when did they starting charging you for bad airplane food? . . . I paid almost $400 for my ticket (and that was after a 15% discount), the least they can do is provide me with some stinking microwaveable food.

Mouldy, I feel for you, but you have encountered a true American tragedy: the demise of the American service industry. Businesses like airlines think they can provide lousy service at high prices, while also providing lackluster customer service. And somehow, the airlines think they will improve their respective bottom lines by raising fares every three days and nickel-and-diming people at the food cart.

Just once, I'd like to see an airline cut costs somewhere. I would bet you, dollars to doughnuts, that their business would improve in the short and long term.

P.S. If you think things are dicey on a five-hour transcontinental flight, try flying to Japan. Not a fun experience. I thought my knees were going to go gangrenous and fall off.

Gravatar Mark the date and time, I think GC and I agree about something

Gravatar On a side note, this is the reason I hate the blogger template to hide posts. Since all of our posts say read more, I'm never sure which posts keep going on and which do not. I thought yours was done after the second paragraph, and I didn't realize there was more until I read the PS feed on my bloglines subscription.

Yes, I know I am the one who added the template and I still think it's nice to condense our front page a bit, but it is annoying. I hope blogger develops something more along the lines of typepad and other blogger templates.
