Gravatar Cindy Sheehan arrested. What a start.

Gravatar An arrest will look lovely in a campaign ad.

Gravatar Mostly boring so far. But why is Bush so soft on border issues? He blew right over it. "Humane border policy" - great, thanks. Funny I don't think we use that standard in Iraq? He loses so much credibility with a conservative like me in supporting his Patriot Act/spying stuff when he won't support an equally tough border policy. I think it is worth more than a 30 sec soundbyte.

Gravatar He almost touched on abortion. What balls. I'm getting excited. He too believes in a place called Hope!

Gravatar love it, lots to discuss

Line item veto...he's kidding right, of course the answer to the budget problem is to give more power to OMB...umm we tried this once, news flash to president a law won't do it you need a constitutional amendment.

Everyone needs to buy american... except Cuba a country willing and able to spend millions on american goods and services but have been embargoed since 1962. Just last year this government adopted a policy that cut off agriculture sales to cuba that was resulting in litterally hundereds of millions of profits for american farmers, growers, and producers. Sounds like a bit of having it both ways if you ask me.

more later...

Gravatar He appropriately stumbled over the text announcing the new members of the Supreme Court, but eventually got it out right. Kind of like stumbling the words Harriet Myers! Couldn't resist.

Gravatar Human cloning ban...human animal hybrids?

Gravatar Yawn. I got it. We're hopeful. OK.

Gravatar before everyone jumps down my throat on the Cuba thing, I know the political reasons for the policy. I'm merely questioning the simple economics, since they have, after 40+ years, failed to accomplish the political goals they were instituted and sustained for.

Gravatar Last note, a bi-partisan commission to study the effects of a baby boomer retirement...that's a big step back from this time last year. A tacit admission of where 12 months of declining political clout domestically will get you. I'm with Paul, however, the Dems shouldn't have cheered and made themselves quite so obvious, but the damage is done on that issue, you can't go from reform now to study now in one year and expect people not to take that as a sign of at least temporary defeat.

Gravatar I'm actually with you on the Cuba thing, mouldy. If we're going to deal openly with China, our Cuba policy is quite indefensible (although of course I also know the political reasons for the policy).

And I don't say that just because I want their smokes.

Gravatar You think the SOTU was boring - the response is even worse.

Gravatar For the smokes you can go to Canada, but beware of the vice taxes they are steep. Besides, you can only bring back a scant few for "personal use" under the customs law. But man is it worth it

Gravatar There was a response????

JK. Man, it does not look like Kaine's response is going to go down in the history books.

As for Cubans - I'll just wait out this embargo thing. At least, that's what I'm saying publicly

Gravatar I didn't realize Tom Friedman was a paid advisor to the WH...otherwise he may want to take issue with them stealing his Op-Ed from last week's NYT (on what the Pres should say in the SOTU about energy independence). Of course W got the liberals in a lather with his grandiose but totally DOA initiatives regarding the ME and Education (full knowing that they would never see an effective dollar from this Congress)...right before he told us that government is the proper tool to impose morality on our country and that abstinence and adoption education (its the birth control stupid) were the reasons for our moral upswing...of course that wasn't as bad as likening gays to hurricane and/or terrible disease victims and inferring they all have AIDS, or was it HIV... I just want to know who his speechwriter is...maybe he/she should be Pres...
