Yes, I know: chimps, monkeys; apples, oranges. Shut up.

Yes. Reich was great on SBS. I do like some of his stuff and he was a pioneer of what we now call sampling so obviously a visionary but there's no question that listening to his music is far from a relaxing experience. I feel the same about John Cage. I love the idea of them and that they challenged teh confines of western music but I don't very often enjoy the results.

Well, it depends on the definition of "enjoy"... which is already sounding pretentious, so I'd best say COCK or something to keep the tone down.
It's not the sort of thing you can leave on in the backround, as it is demanding; but still rewarding. I've occasionally been rapt, listening to Steve Reich; I haven't even managed to muster up a bit of even self-conscious worthiness listening to John Cage. COCK.

Come now, there is not a single situation in life that cannot be improved by threatening to hoist someone by heir own petard.

Except that to be hoist by your own petard, you have to be the one to do it; therefore you have to let the others get on and hoist themselves, which disappointingly (every time!) means you can't control who's being hoist and who manages not to be (the bastards). The main thing is to avoid hoisting oneself, which can be difficult. Do I have to say COCK now? Or was my comment daft enough without?
PB, I share your dismay when reading the papers.
