Are you saying an era has recently ended, or is ending? The post-modern era, perhaps?

I like MacLeish's poem as a description of the dying (in the hearts of our contemporaries) of the whole sacramental view that once inhabited our language and symbols. We live in post-Christian times, but also, as Harold Berman (erstwhile prof. of law at Harvard Law School) said, post-Western times, if the "West" can be understood as defined by medieval "Christendom."
