Too much beer may have been in him.
Maybe the fact that he is known for beer drinkin' leads the common man to identify more with him and thus also his translation, or could it be that a translation written my a beered up man is more easily understood by a beered up German?

Luther as a "Holy Prophet" is surely not just a mere flippant comment.
Would not a Holy Prophet entitle Luther to be considered a "Saint"?
