I wonder how many more years the British tax payers are going to want to pay for this farce?

He had intended to change the title to Defender of Faiths [Fidum Defensor it would be I think] but now he can keep the title Fidei Defensor, just reading fides to mean faith rather than Catholic faith.
It was not Leo X but Clement VII who excommunication Henry VIII in 1533.
Charles is quite a suitable head of state for Britain today. The Anglican Church would be purer in doctrine if it had been disestablished long ago. Nice to see a photo in which Charles actually looks handsome -- an old one no doubt.

correction, Fidium defensor (except that the phrase suggests defender of gut-strings or lyres).

Thanks for the correction. Something about that stuck in the back of my memory as wrong, but I couldn't place it. I'll correct the error.

Please, a little sympathy for Charles. Look what he has to come home to at night.

I guess sometimes the worse thing that can happen to a guy is to finally get what he wants.

Camilla is just what Charles needs -- a kind, blousy, motherly, and warm woman -- and in fact a much nicer person than the ill-starred Diana.

Not of course that I approve of Charles' marriage to Diana -- a royal lie.

I'm confused -- did you mean Charles' marriage to Diana was a royal lie, or his marriage to Camilla? I can understand his marriage to Camilla being characterised in that fashion, but it doesn't quite seem to fit his marriage to Diana.

See Diana's interview on TV in 1994 or so.

I know that its easy to laugh at the Prince, and Lord knows he's done enough to deserve it. But please bear in mind that none other than Roger Scruton said he is one of the few Englishmen still using large endowment funds to award merit scholarships to promising high schoolers to attend Oxford or Cambridge tuition free.
Perhaps miraculous healing is not the only miracle that John Henry Newman is working in England.

rob K,
I didn't expect him to reply; I just thought that Fr. O'Leary might think about it.

Should that read, "was, ironically, granted" rather than "was ironically granted"? Also (technically) the C of E was disestablished some time ago. The Queen (or King) is still head of the Church of England, but the State (allegedly) no longer recognizes the C of E as an official branch of the government, enforces its doctrines or collects and remits tithes. That is, the Church of England is not, as the phrase went, "By law established." It's no longer "high treason" be belong to a faith other than the Church of England.
