The current issue of "Social Justice Review" (July/August 2006) has an article by Dr. Raphael Waters making some similar points -- the abandonment of Aristotle and St. Thomas as guides, even (or especially) by people who pay the Philosopher and the Angelic Doctor the most lip service. It's "Science, Faith, and Morality."
The way to happiness?
Ah, but in the US, happiness has a different meaning than what God grants us.
And the lesson of Christianity is the cross...and accepting the cross leads to...not happiness in the American elites' sense of the word, but to contentedness and joy.
Maybe that's why Jefferson said "Purfoot of Happineff" instead of happineff per se. If only he hadn't had that lifp.
